We nailed the Young pick and then reached on Mingo and reached on DJJ. What a weird draft.

Agree on the reaches, but 39-80 who is the can’t miss dude we passed on? Who is the day one starter? Arguments can be made for corners and nickels I guess. We already invested a fug ton in OL.

Hampton would’ve been a good pick..but for Hampton-Size.

KJ Henry is stiff as a board

What sets BJ Olujari apart from DJ Johnson?

I Didnt like the Johnson pick or the trade. But Go back and look at picks 39-80. Where is the can’t miss day one starter…Cam Smith maybe? Honey badger lite from Bama at nickel maybe?

I see what you're saying.  I'm not mad about it just trying to assess.

Ojulari doesn't have good burst, but his bend, lateral movement and pursuit is top level.  I can see why team's viewed him fringe 1st/early 2nd.

Once TEN's Byron Young went, I think the remaining EDGE's we liked were thinning out.  I mean, there were a TON that went in 2-3.  Hall, BJ, Foskey, Tuli, White flew off the board after the Mingo pick.  That was a risk we took with landing a fave offensive weapon instead of one of them first.

Seems like we definitely had a positional fill in mind over BPA here, which, I guess is fine.  There were some really solid DBs & RBs available but I won't fret.  Have to think we had DJ Johnson in a tier above McGuire, Henry, etc. that made him worthy of the trade up.  YaYa Diaby was taken right after who is old as well, but a bit more explosive IMO.

He's on the team now so all we can do is hope for the best!

People really tripping over us giving up a 4th...

Get the WR bc Chark is on a 1yr deal, and Thielen will be 34 next season.

Dj Johnson brings rare traits size, speed, strength, we have no one like that on the roster. If they didn't draft your guy it happens, I can see the vision.

So BPA regardless of need was a lie...

I don't mind them rolling dice on the defensive side. Safe picks on offense make sense with Young distributing. And the same concept applies: if this staff is all it's cracked up to be we should have better odds of the projects panning out.

I'll feel good about the pick if they sign a veteran stopgap to buy them time. A little concerning if the plan is to start DJ raw.

Ohhhh this I can get with. BJ and DJ same stats for 2022. I think Tuli, Foskey, and White are YGM, meaning I think they are all 4-3 DE in the Pros.

Young was a fit and I think that triggered the trade. I hated the DJ Johnson pick at first. Called him a senior citizen. But it’s growing on me. You never know who works and and who don’t. These guys talking about their crushes like they are top 10 can’t miss guys killing me over here.

There's always a mammoth of perceived "reaches" in the 2nd-3rd.  That's where team scouts vs. online rankings always diverge like crazy.  No matter the rumors or who we heard likes who.  It is never what it seems, these scouting rooms have their own world separate from the web.

I.E. -- Tyler Scott is still on the board who was supposedly rocketing up team boards and impressing a lot.  Scruggs G/C went 62 overall who many had pegged as a late rounder.  Strange went ahead of Tucker Kraft.  Reed was WR6 head of Hyatt, Tillman, Rice, Downs.  Torrence fell to the late 50s.

We picked a guy who was projected on more than a few sites as a 3rd-4th rounder so DJ doesn't seem like a reach.  I think people are a bit underwhelmed bc he's older and has some stuff to work out, but you gotta consider ceiling with EDGE rushers.  And last but not least, we had to meet our 'guys named DJ' quota.

Yeah I mean so can the rest of us. They’re clearly big on taking players with really high athletic scores and traits potential. That’s fine, if you can bring out the ability in these players…and we’re still waiting on that dam to burst. It’s early yet and it just may but it’s definitely a gamble, it’s certainly an approach I endorse more on day 3 than day 2.

I like the mingo pick because its a plan to help Young down the road.  I also think it shows the staff is not high on marshall either

Drafting a WR was a need for us because Thielen and TMJ are the only recievers under contract next year. This is more of a backfill for DJ Chark/Laviska than it is for TMJ.

TMJ can play outside and inside. Mingo is your X receiver. If anything, the FO probably sees a path where we have Mingo and TMJ as our future WRs.

    • If they screwed it up, it’s one pick. Kind of like if we’d taken Levis maybe, at 9 in 2023. That is their worst case.  Would you rather do that and hit or miss, or what we did?
    • He is a QB, on a rookie deal and Cousins is old coming off an achilles injury. Which QB they got is the part that is highly debatable if it was good. Yeah they could have used that on more tallent but Cousins doesn't win in the postseason so it wouldn't matter anyways. Chances are good they take the NFCS regardless this year or it goes back to a Bucs team that just breaks .500.
