The OL will be the most stable and effective group to begin the season and that means our running game should thrive.

And we're starting down 1 OLman and another coming off injury.

Last year we were 16th in YBC, 6th in pressure% and  6th in pocket time.  Everyone says our run blocking is better than pass pro, but the stats tell a different story.

LOL - so many of you guys were overly optimistic with Rhule and even Rivera's latter years when I cautioned against it.  Now when it's actually time to be optimistic, you want to be Debbie downers haha

Not to be a downer, but I’m going Saints for the division this year and us taking next year. For the record, I was never optimistic about Rhule

That’s fine, I just think we will be middle of the table in conference and hopefully have a winning record. I don’t think the division will be as down this year and if Carr actually plays well, the Saints will be a tough out.

Draft kings has us favored in 5 games.  One is the home opener Saint's primetime game, by -1.

I'll add to that...sweep the Falcons and Bucs, and win vs Titans, Bears, Pack.  Gets us to 10.  Could be another surprise in there somewhere too.

This coaching staff could have gotten a few more wins out of last year's team.  I am doing the ultimate positive homer thing and saying I expect at least 10 wins.

I like the way you think but

17-0 is better

This coming season is a total mystery to me. On paper we should be remarkably, amazingly better than last season.

On paper.

On field turf... that's the real question. And we won't have an inkling of how this is going to work until say the first or second pre-season game at the earliest, if even that soon.

Honestly, we won't really have a reason to consider ourselves contenders until Reich's second season. There was a lot of stink on the Rhule regime and that doesn't just air out quickly.

Still, stranger things have happened. No one thought the Giants would be competitive last year, especially considering the strength of their  division. And the NFCSouth is as weak as dishwater right now...

disappointed (but not surprised) in that take.

stay miserable.

What's miserable about acknowledging a probable reality? My expectations are pretty low largely because a complete overhaul rarely yields major results in year 1. Years 2 and 3 yeah, I fully expect the team to be much improved, but this year... nah. Let's see some upward trend throughout the season and actual competent NFL strategy and I'll be set. Hardly a miserable state of mind and, if anything, makes it much easier to be impressed/delighted.

Y'all are the ones setting yourselves up for some potential misery.

if it's going to work, you'll see it year one. you have the right coach...you'll see results quickly. if it takes 2 or more years, you probably don't have the right coach.

complete overhauls don't take 2-3 years to succeed anymore. you see the fruits year one and year 2-3 you likely see a solid playoff run. you have the right QB (even a rookie one) and you see bigger success earlier.

100%

I think in regards to young we should know rather quickly if this is going to work.  8 weeks or so would be my guess.  Also I think we should see quick dividends with this staff early on as well since rhule and co were completely inept

i think we'll see as quickly with Young as we did with Cam...as in weeks 1 and 2 i think we'll know we've got something special going on here.

tbh, i'm not as excited about Young as i was with Cam (although there is a lot of excitement and that excitement is building for me), but i am far more excited about Young + Reich & co. than i was with Cam + Rivera & co.

    • Dude, I think I might be having Jarvy withdrawals... I ripped the sleeves off of all of my t-shirts in my sleep last night. Every bite of my Alpha-Bita cereal spelled Seth, this morning. And, I took 7 naps before lunch. I'm losing it guys! Jarvy's Jaunty Band of Jaggoffs are getting more play than he is... smh Team Canada doesn't treasure Jarvis the way he deserves. He should take his band down to Liechtenstein, get a bag of passports, and start his own Olympic team! The raw animal magnetism of Jarvilicious will bring in a handful of NHLers on its own. And, since the IOC believes in collective punishment, he could have his pick of the rookies. Then, just fill out the rest of the roster with the maple blooded great white northerners who couldn't make the top squad. Can't trust this assembled awesomery to just any old Liechtensteinien with a clipboard and a whistle. Gotta bring in a legend worthy of this gold medal gambit. A hockey HOFer with the balls to buck the system and the aura to match our maverick. Huere geil, Vaduz!!! 2030 Gold Medal guaranteed!
    • Tennessee isn't trading a QB on a 2nd round contract that has starting experience.  That's bad business.
    • OT is the top priority as it is both an immediate and future need.  I wouldn't be past trading up slightly to get the guy we want.  You need that rookie contract right now.  Icky is a dead 17.5 million for the season.  Morton is 20+ mil for the season, Hunt is 20+ mil for the season.  There needs to be forward thinking regarding the future.   Caleb Lomu is a left Tackle, he's a solid prospect, he may be the best pick for us now and in the future.  I would seriously consider cutting Hunt after 2026, and let Lomu and Icky fight for the LT job, loser moves inside.  Icky's future may be at guard after this injury anyway.  If Damien Lewis keeps up his level of play he will need to be paid sooner rather than later.  Yosh and BC can be our top two depth OL at an affordable price.  You will need to look at OT again in 2027. Getting an EDGE for the sake of getting an EDGE outside of the top 10 is pretty risky.  I wouldn't be against eyeing someone like Cashius Howell, Derrick Moore, or TJ Parker in the 2nd (even if we trade a future pick to move up) or DDS in the third. I'd love to see us try to sign both Leo Chenal and Matt Millano in FA.   Chenal for the blitzing element we are missing from our LB corps and Millano for his elite coverage.  They could both work in tandem.  Remember, our FO has deep ties to both KC and Buffalo. I love thinking about the draft, but until Free Agency hits, we are clueless.  Looking at the strength of FA and the draft, OL is priority #1, LB #2, and EDGE #3.  We know what happens to Bryce when protection falls apart.
