Biggest Boom or Bust Position Group?

One of the guys on the PFF podcast has Mingo as his rookie of the year candidate.

If Mingo has ROY numbers at WR that means Bryce is balling out and no way he loses out to his own receiver. This is a terrible position to take.

Which position group on the team do you think could have the highest potential or the lowest floor?

Corner. We didn’t do anything to truly bolster it thus far. Still pissed over Rhule letting Bradberry walk. We definitely have some very elite talent that could play back there but if only they can stay health.

Me personally, I don't think Mingo sees the field much at all this season.

IF (And this is honestly a longshot based on their history) Chark and TMJ are healthy, I see them taking over the 1 and 2 WRs with Thielen as our slot option and main red zone target. We'll have some plays schemed up for Shenault throughout the game to utilize his run after catch abilities, and then there's also Hurst and Sanders getting targets as well.

That leaves Mingo, the rookie, on the outskirts with not much to do unless someone gets hurt.

Next year if we move on from Chark or TMJ Falls flat, I can see Mingo sliding into the #2 receiver. But if our receivers stay healthy, I don't anticipate him doing much this year.

If he’s not a day one started imma be pissed. Mingo needs to develop at a national scale. I personally don’t have that much trust in TMJ. But that could be jaded by the awful offensive schemes we’ve had the past few years.

I'd say WR.

Theilen is the only WR who has an established floor that should be league average at worst.

Chark (health), TMJ & Mingo (inexperience) and others like Shenault give us potential to creep up into the top 10 as a unit. If those factors go sideways, we also could be bottom 5 at the WR position. Definition of boom or bust imo.

Agreed. Yes, Young is key but I don’t think OP meant 1 player. I don’t think the CB group has nearly the potential of the WRs. Donte was never close to the top CBs and the rest are kind of garbage beyond Horn. I think they end up being Horn and meh without much upside or downside other than Horn missing a lot of time again.

I’d go wideout for the same sentiments as above.

CB on paper looks scary good and the biggest question mark is can Donte and Jayce stay healthy.

Scary good? It's literally the same group as last year plus a couple UDFA's. It was scary bad when Horn went down. The only hope they have for depth is 2 UDFA's beating out 2 of the depth guys and that's usually not very likely to happen. Maybe Wright knocks out STO or Taylor

He's not going to be a day one starter and it's not important that he is. There are going to be 2 to 3 WR ahead of him.

Justin Jefferson wasn't

Davante Adams wasn't

Stefon Diggs wasn't

Drake London wasn't

Garrett Wilson wasn't

Chris Olave wasn't

Tyreek Hill started 1 game is rookie year

I'd say our defensive line.  We have a bunch of guys beyond burns and brown.  Plus the transition to the 3-4.

How well will they transition? Will someone opposite of Burns step up? Will the interior of the line not only hold up, but provide push?

If our defense is to take a step forward this year, it starts right here in the trenches.

If not, won't matter how good Young is.

I think with the changes made this year you could pick any position group and have a good argument. This year really will be interesting, we hope in a good way.

Scary good if Horn and Jackson can be on the field. If one or both goes down it’s going to get ugly.
