how important is it that we win preseason games?

Just curious what everyone's thoughts are in this.

I just tried watching something on YouTube a little while ago where the argument was over whether tomorrow is a "must win" for the jets after losing in the HoF game.

Does it matter? Why or why not?

Entirely irrleevant, though it is important that the starters and backups look competent, coached, composed, and that they show improvement week by week.

That said, I don't mind 'winning' the first quarter/first half and maybe through the third quarter if it's mostly guys who will make the 53 on the field.

It is always nice to win...can't say it is important in a preseason game. With so many new players and new schemes on both sides of the ball...would love to see good play from the 1st and 2nd stringers.

In this one...Rogers is not playing and our D should handle the Jets oline and give Zach a fit.  Would love a win!

The only thing that matters to me is not if we win or lose but how we won or lost. The preseason record means nothing.  These games are meant to evaluate players new to the team in a game situation.  It's a chance for the coaches to iron out the kinks before the real battle begins.  Sure, they want to win but in reality it's more about seeing who stays and who goes.

You just don't want a losing record, and you certainly don't want to go winless. Only one team has been in the Super Bowl after going winless in the preseason (82 Skins). I'm too lazy to research the past four seasons, but there was an emerging pattern.

Me? I watch preseason for evaluation purposes, as well as to know what I'm actually talking about here. Winning & losing in the preseason matters little without context.

    • You don’t even need 1b because Tepper is the only one foolish enough to wheel that deal.    Player wise? Jake’s elbow. JR and Pep getting sideways, no Carruth, Cam’s shoulder, Luke’s concussions, it would be a long list of stuff. You can take it down to certain plays in games. Fox chasing 2 point conversions in the SB would be on my list. RMJr slipping at the end of that same game was not helpful.
    • Ultimately this just amounts to heavy revisionist history. I mean you aren't talking to someone that just popped out the womb a week ago. I was here all throughout the predraft process. The overwhelming majority of the fanbase felt like this was a fine situation and the best situation for a rookie QB to go to compared to Houston for example. The hype for Young and our "rockstar" staff was off the charts. No one could dare speak cautious skepticism of his abilities or they would be neg repped into oblivion. Only after he had one of statistical worst rookie seasons of the last 25 years did we get this narrative now that his rookie season actually shouldn't count. Complete malarkey if you ask me.
    • On the field? Since I guess it qualifies as multiple instances it might not count, but have the damn refs throw some flags on illegal hits to Cam's head in SB50. If that doesn't count, 1A. Cotchery caught it 1B. Kasey keeps that kickoff inbounds. Off the field? 1A. Team is sold to anyone but Tepper 1B. We have the patience not to mortgage the franchise on that Bryce trade. Stroudwpuldve been the better pick but he's not worth it either.
