There are people pining for the leadership of Marty Hurney right now.

We may have officially reached The Ninth Circle of Dumb 🙄

I wish Hurney could come in every year just to make a first round selection and then walk out the door after that first round selection not to return back until its time to make the next first round drafty selection. The dude usually drafted pretty well in the first. He sucked at most everything else but first round he was a whiz

Of course he was! We were always picking in the top 10 because of him. Hard to miss when you're picking that high.

True for the most part if you leave out guys like Jamarcus Russell and some other top 10 busts. Even his later first round picks turned out pretty well. terrible GM but the guy could scout a first rounder

Tell that to Scott Fitterer

Ickey and Derrick Brown have been good??

horn is the only one you could arguably call a bad pick, and even then, he showed no issues staying healthy in college. Just bad luck.

there are things to criticize Scott for but i don’t think first round selections are one of them.

How could Fitterer have drafted Brown if he was hired 9 months after Brown was drafted?

Okay? The point still stands that the *only* first round pick of Scott’s that could be considered “bad” is Jaycee - and once again it’s due to an issue that never reared its head in college. So of Scott’s three first round picks you have

one that looks good and send to be on his way to being a stud (Ickey)

One who’s a great player but hurt too often (Horn)

and one who just played their first game (Bryce)

You can be bummed about Jaycee, I am too, but there’s nothing proving Scott is “bad” in the First round.

OL - B+ they actually pleasantly surprised me how cohesive they were on most plays already. That said 5 sacks is not a number they should allow.

QB - I’ll reserve that until we see a bit more of him.

WR - Who? Do we have any WR’s on the team. Agree on the F.

Hurst - A

Defense - D-, the defense overall was, not good.

Coaches - F. Those game plans sucked ass.

Respect your ratings. As far as the sacks go, I attribute most of it to how long Young held onto the ball.

My QB and all my ratings were just for how they played for this game. I certainly expect Young to get better with more experience and practice, but he needs WR help and the timing was atrocious (half on WR half on Young).

    • The good news is that we are pretty uniquely well established to address all of our needs this season. We have $14m real cap space, and something like $40m in trade deadline cap space. Not sure exactly how that works out. But, we have the room to absorb any bad contracts. With recent rule changes regarding retention, that went into effect this season, we now have a huge advantage in the trade market.  On top of that, while we do have obvious needs, we also have a glut of talent in certain areas that we struggle to find ice time for. We are over-stocked on scrappy talented lil-guys, strong defensively sound 3rd liners and shutdown left shot dmen. Whether it's a package or separate deals, idk. But, one of each from Stank/Blake/Nads, Erob/Carrier/KK/Jank, and Walker/Nystrom; throw in some 1st round picks (and frankly any other prospects they want) and we should be able to come out with a 1b to pair with Bussi and either a 2c with size or a 2c and size.   TL/DR We got the money, you got the stuff?
    • I don’t  think 6’4 was ever considered small or undersized. Baby hands tho, yes that was his thing That’s an interesting idea, like an optical illusion? Sounds like you have personal experience with this!
    • in the 25' draft the Carolina Panthers had hired Brandt Tillis someone who actually understood how to build a successful team & build through the draft .  this team was yes mismanaged for years prior to Brandt Tillis joining the team in 25' & rarely done anything right in the draft outside occaionaly getting lucky on an UDFA such as Jalen Coker who's dad coincidentally happened to be a huge Carolina Panthers fan, hint hint  ...just saying
