Must win game

I think this game is like the difference between us winning 3 games or 4. Something like that. All this season really has to offer is a few wins against bad teams. We have no 1st round pick, so I can't go into draft mode. It's all in on win this game or 0-17 is still in play. One of our few little pitiful rewards is possibly beating the poop Vikings. We got here through mismanagement, and we're not getting out this season. Just enjoy whatever you can and hope for the best.

This is what I do every week 🙂

I just don't see us stopping their offense and the only other relief on the schedule is the Bears itself. Which is no consolation prize considering we are handing them our pick in the draft so they win that week either way.

Handing the Bears a top 5 pick would really sting.

Why? That’s such a silly mindset. The trade wasn’t about 2023-2024… it’s about 2024+ … a top 5 bears pick is a top 5 pick in the 2nd round for us.

if your argument is that “we could have had a top 5 pick next year without the trade” … sure but no franchise quarterback.

that trade was about the future not a single season. Decisions made in short term bubbles was what doomed us under Rhule.

if bears getting a top 5 pick stings… then you are looking at this all wrong.

my personal take is that we won’t be in the top 5, but we will give up a top 10. However, I think we have a strong close out to the season and carry the momentum into next year. Barring injuries.

I was onboard with the trade because I mistakenly thought we weren't going to be in a position to get a top 5 pick (or higher). After seeing how we played under Wilks I honestly thought we wouldn't be picking top 10 so if there's an opportunity to shoot your shot then shoot. But if we them turn around and actually earn a pick from true sucking that could land us a franchise QB prospect without a huge trade up? Ouch.

We don’t know what the inverse of the situation would have been. We could have signed Derek Carr, Jimmy G, or minshew and never made the trade. Then ended up finishing around 7-10 - 11-6 …. Then picking in the middle of the first next year.

then how are we feeling? Delaying the inevitable at that point.

we can create as many universes as we want … but stressing about what pick the bears get completely dismisses the purpose of the deal.

Definitely not stressing about it. Just saying that yeah, it would suck and it would demolish my logic for backing the move.

    • To me, this seems like they feel they aren't going to be competitive. I can't help but go back to Bryce. Good guy, but he doesn't inspire people to give it their all. He isn't a "leader" that people look to. There is no Smith, Delhomme, Kuechly, Cam, etc. coming in that door.  It has to be Bryce, but biologically speaking, how often is the shortest man in the room going to command the kind of respect that will drive people? It just isn't. That isn't how we are wired. That isn't how any living animal on Earth today is wired.  I just follow the science guys.
    • Vick's issue with Reid was that he couldn't take a hit, and he wouldn't go down. Otherwise he was pretty good much of the time.  Mahomes has a system that works. Mahomes doesn't become Mahomes elsewhere because not everyone can extract 125% of the ability of a specific player like Reid can. Kevin O'Connell is beginning to look like he has that ability as well but I'll need to see how he does with his Redshirt Freshman.  I also wonder how much of their playoff issue last year was related to the offense as a whole and not just Darnold. Fans don't really dive into the "why" things happen, they just see the what and complain about it.
