Would anyone other than the #1 overall pick still be starting at this point?

Here is a dose of reality to start your day:

Young isn't a franchise QB...period

The coaching staff isn't cutting it

The team has grade c- talent in most areas

The owner and his wife have mangled this team into something unrecognizable

Team has been setback years with the awfull trades and decisions

Choose whichever ones to blame....it doesn't matter.

He certainly isn't worth building around in the future and at this point they should flip the oline back to late last year and if he isn't good enough to play in last years easy oline scheme then it really doesn't matter.

I don't think anyone involved can afford that yet. Until the blame potato firmly lands on someone that won't really be an option.

Yep. We had some decent success running to Corbett’s side of the line yesterday. The game plan for every remaining game should be a carbon copy of the Sam Darnold/PJ Walker plans from the end of last season. This team simply doesn’t have the offensive weapons to win any other way in this league.

That would take admiting the situation and they are still chasing the dream they built so poorly.

All I see is a terrible GM and a bunch of really old coaches who are too stubborn or proud to admit that their system isn’t working and needs to be adjusted. Thomas Brown is calling plays but it’s Reich’s offense. Reich is just one of those guys who is a coordinator/position coach type but he’s not a head coach. Nothing wrong with that, lots of guys aren’t built for it. But I’m out on him ever turning this ship around. He looks tired and just done.

I am not impressed with Brown either. He is extreamly raw and it's another Brady situation at best again with him. Frank just came here and continued his spiral into retirement. It's exactly what it looked like when he came here. Even Ron had a small window of mediocraty before he continued his own downward spiral with his new tram,  Frank did not. The entire staff and front office should be purged. But that just leads back to the biggest problem, the Teppers.

His last game was getting his ass kicked 26-3 by the patriots with Sam Ehlinger at QB after his Matt Ryan reclamation project failed. If given a choice between two options Tepper will always pick the wrong one.

Hell, at some point we have to be honest and ask ourselves if continuing to play him is actually helping him right now. He's going backwards.

Think you have to keep him out there at this point. We've made our bed. If Bryce is a bust we could be back drafting QBs as early as 2025. We need to be sure what we have in him before writing off the trade as a loss.

Be careful.  That type statement will have some people flipping out

But didn’t he and Brown sit down and make this offense together? I thought I recall Brown talking about how much he’s been able to do when it comes to creating this offense?

They did.  But I stated last week the core of this O is simply Frank’s standard O.  The 60% Brown acknowledged.  Brown didn’t make that base up out of thin air.  Frank dictated what the base would be. It’s the primary part we have used and relied upon.  The 40% isn’t called 40% of the time.   It just exists in a book.  We are just running the Frank O with all its standard flaws that showed in Indy and SD.

I largely put that on management of the entire operation.  If you asked Joe Burrow to run Lamar Jackson’s O and Burrow then sucks….is that Burrow sucking or the Bengals being clueless with their talent?   If we put Thielen on the outside and run go routes all game and he finished with 0 additional catches the rest of the year? Did Thielen get worse or is he be asked to do  the wrong thing.

This OL was not built nor acquired to run this offense.   They don’t fit it nor what they are asked to be each week.

So I largely put it on coaching and management.   Even if this O is their ideal vision they don’t have the talent for it yet.  And they aren’t adjusting to that fact.  At all.

The OL sucks. They 100% suck.  I just think you gotta acknowledge why they suck and it’s a choice the staff made.

Actually, bringing up Burrow brings up a great point.

In Burrow's first two seasons, he was sacked on 7.3 and 8.9 percent of his dropbacks.  Were people making excuses for Burrow because of his OL?  No, that's silly.  People WERE saying that if the Bengals don't get him some linemen he won't survive.  But his performances were . . . well, Joe Burrow.

Bryce is currently being sacked at a rate of 9.4 percent of his dropbacks.  It's honestly not that different from what Burrow had when he came into the league.

Look at Desmond Ridder if you want a comparison.  He's being sacked at a rate of 9.4 percent of his dropbacks - just like Bryce.  What's his status now?  Oh, right.  Benched in favor of former Panther Taylor Heinicke.

Interestingly, with Heinicke at QB, the same line that was giving up sacks at a rate of 9.4 percent is now giving up sacks at a rate of 3.5 percent.  What's the difference?  Likely that Heinicke just processes faster than Ridder and gets the ball out.  Can someone remind me again what Bryce's greatest strength was supposed to be?

Bryce is our guy.  He's got at least another year.  I want him to succeed.  But the reality is that it doesn't currently look good.  Hopefully, instead of making excuses someone on Mint Street is making a plan.

So the three picks yesterday was scheme?  Cool story bro.
