PB2’s Prediction:

The Panthers take advantage of the Packers weak run defense early on for a steady lead. After Green Box loads the box, Carolina can’t capitalize in the pass game which leads to multiple failed conversations and stalled drives. Green Bay manages to pick apart Carolina’s gassed defense and ties the game as regulation expires. Carolina gets the opening possession in OT but goes 3 and out and gives Green Bay good field position on poor punt coverage. A few solid throws and a defensive holding penalty places the Packers in FG range where Green Bay Kicker Anders Carlson nails a 39 yarder for the win.

Final: Packers 19 Panthers 16

It could go that way.

I think your points estimate for the Panthers is a little generous. In the 11 games since our offensive explosion of 27 points versus Seattle, we have averaged a paltry 13.8/game. We've had 2 straight games of single digit scoring, and 2 more of just 10 points. 4 out of the last 5 games are not supportive of 16 points.

Conversely, in those same 11 games we are giving up 24.2/game, with 2 42 point games and a 33 point game.

I will give my prediction.

The defense will hold the Packers to 7 points in the first half that they only manage to score after a sack fumble in which Ickey lets Rashaan gary blast bryce into Gastonia.

We will dick around on offense and manage a single good drive in the first half that gets in the 10 yard line which will be set back by a false start, holding penalty and another sack. Pinero will hit a 45 yarder.

The second half will continue with mind numbing penalties, sacks and generally no one getting open against a pretty bad GB defense.

Finally, absolutely gassed and asking the audience to pass them a cigarette the defense will give up a bomb touchdown.

Final score GB 21 - CAR 6

Same old metric. Does the opponent score more than 17 points?  if yes, there's a 99% chance of a Panthers loss.  If the opponent is held to 17 points, about 33.3% shot of a Panthers win and the chances increase about 15% for every 3 points under that.  I know that doesn't add up to 100%, but you get the idea.

This team would probably lose half the games where the defense holds the opponent to 0 points.

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
