Russel Wilson being benched

Not unless they want to cap hell for a while. The first semi-reasonable out they have is after 2024. If they cut him prior to Mar. 21st of 2024, the 2025 guaranteed money goes away(it is the full 2025 salary, BTW). But they would have $85 mil in dead money.

These are their two reasonable options, both post-June 1. Neither are good but if they're done they're done.

If he is on the roster in March of 2024, 100% of his 2025 salary is fully guaranteed.

They would also need to clear out almost all remaining talent on the roster to get under the cap.

Broncos are benching wilson for financial reasons, if he gets hurt the last 2 weeks then they owe him a lot of money guaranteed. WIlson is a vet with a lot of miles, bryce is a rookie who the coaching staff wanted benched but was overruled by a meddling owner then they were fired. I think there is a lot of difference in the situations.

There's always a way. I've watched the Saints pull off salary cap impossibilities every year for decades now.

The cap situation they have is very difficult. It's much tougher to navigate. To be honest, they probably need to consider extending Russell to alleviate some of the financial stress.

Okay, so he has some nasty injury clause in that contract.

And the Broncos are all but eliminated from the playoffs.

Was going to say the same thing.

I wish the Broncos the worst and only the worst. I hope they don't see the playoffs for more than a decade.

Still mad about our first game after the Super Bowl. I wish nothing but an unholy level of the bad luck greater than the combined bad luck of the browns and the lions upon them for that. They deserve it!

Taking doesn't really help them much. They don't have a 1st round pick

Sitting the guy that would put you in a better position to win the game is tanking. Denver cares more about saving that cash longterm than whether they win these games. My point is the anti-tankers here love to act like this doesn't happen and teams' priority every week is to win.

I dont blame them for doing that myself.

    • Well, they're both in the same league (if you will). During preseason, Fitz went 3/3 & Sauls went 5/6, but of course Sauls was 4/4 last night (including one 50+). Both were Lou Groza Award finalists. I believe Fitz made two 55+ yarders last season, while Sauls led the nation with three. Fitz was 13/13 (💯) while Sauls was 21/24 (87.5). Fitz was a 3rd-Team AP All-American, while Sauls was a PFF All-American.  Career-wise, Fitz was 58/74 (78.4), while Sauls was 52/64 (81.3). I wish that I could see the attempts and knew the depth of yardage. I wish that we could compare practice kicks during their training camps, but we can't. Maybe someone with a PFF/CFF account can give that Basically it's just a matter of belief I guess. Seeing dude knock down four FGs and go perfect during a pressure-filled game for him is damned impressive if you ask me. I don't believe that Fitzgerald could do that.  That being said, I'd have to know more. I will say that it may be worth mentioning that we seem to like PFF this year and Sauls being a PFF All-American may be notable. Now that being said, the Panthers may not be even considering Sauls.
    • Ive said it 1000x times on here.  Our 2025 season will be dictated by the first 4 games.  poo the bed there and lose all confidence and momentum, we win 5 games maybe.  Go 2-2, 3-1 we got a look at 7/8 wins
    • I basically made almost the exact predictions on a phone call with a buddy about 3 weeks ago. I really do expect Evero gone before the seasons end, Young to just not able to get over the hump enough and DC to head into next season on a VERY hot seat.
