So Morgan hasn’t been officially named GM, but is helping with HC interviews, is that common? I thought Tepper wanted the HC to pick the GM?

Tepper and the panthers have said nothing about any of this. No idea what they want.

Speculation on everyone's part.  Mentioned wanting alignment and connected the dots between all the candidates for HC/GM and ran with the notion the HC is going to hire the GM or whatever.

The Head Coach should not be a QB baby sitter. That’s the job of the offensive staff. Some play callers can succeed as Head Coaches, many more cannot. I’d much rather have a defensive minded head coach that knows how to delegate.

In the interest of Bryce’s development, it makes sense for there to be continuity in offensive scheme.  Hiring an offensive minded HC checks that box. I’d be surprised if they hired a DC as head coach of they believe Bryce can be salvaged.

I've mentioned that with some other folks over on the former bird app.  If your HC is spending time trying to "fix" your QB they are spending less time being the HC.  OC/QB coaches job to get the most out of your offensive players.  That's why I never believed we needed an OC to pair with Bryce.  We just need a good coach.

Baker Mayfield is a good example of how the system and supporting cast can make a mediocre QB good.  He was not good here with WR Moore and the OL was considered better than average.  The defense was good.  He goes to Tampa Bay, and leads them to a playoff berth and win.  They want him back.

I think Bryce will improve with weapons and in a new system that will probably be designed to accommodate his skill set.   In college, Bryce was good (footwork) when he had time to throw.  The OL will get better when BC and Corbett return, and I think Ekwonu needs an offseason of work on technique and focus.  He had 10 false starts in 2023 and 4 holding penalties--all because he was not confident in his ability to block an edge rusher.  Mechanics will improve this.

Will this be enough for Bryce?  We will find out.

Absolutely bonkers to design the offseason appointments around Young.

I’d love to keep a count on all that gave up on Bryce. Get an Offensive scheme that fits him, along with some help around him, and you will see the Alabama kid you saw a year ago. Everyone…and I mean everyone…their main concern when we drafted him was his durability. He proved that in a year of getting slammed around like a rag doll. He will put on some muscle, get a competent coach, and he will come around.

    • Great article on all the Lil Canes attending their debutantes ball. Walt with a great breakdown of all the rookies, as always, and I'm a huge fan of his team coverage, he is truly a treasure, but as a fan of mixed metaphors and superfluous language which some might ignorantly refer to as a "run-on sentence" I never really understood what that mean or where to put the comma after a quote in the middle of a sentence, but holy poo Walt, this is a gem, "While there's a long road left in front of them left to determine whether or not they'll have that same success on the blue line again, the beginning stretch of the journey has been thrown a wrench, and the story on defense has been the emergence of up-and-comers forced into becoming lineup regulars." , bravo, take a bow, sir!
    • How do I activate said Krispy Kreme deal? I'm stoned man you can't be playing with me about this...
    • When the broadcast showed the two benches side by side during the last TV timeout, it was pretty obvious the whole operation is a shitshow. If I was the owner, I would play that clip, with commentary, on the jumbotron at MSG as I fired the coach, GM, President, the whole lot. Bring in your AHL leadership team, wholesale, to finish out the season and start from scratch next year.  Can't fire all the players and fold the season. But, hopefully decapitating the zombie will light a fire under the body and burn out the cancer of the roster. (It makes sense if you don't think about it...) There are obviously issues on the roster. But, you can't have the entire coaching staff completely tuned out with 5 minutes left in a 2 goal game this early in the season. And you can't trust the people that hired them to hire the next staff. If you trust your AHL GM/Scouts, let them run the deadline firesale.   ...     Please don't let the owner read any of this. Because, this poo is hilarous!
