This! Also would bet there were no second interviews with other candidates because their agents said not interested. We are going to have to get lucky for this to work.

Should probably also have added this is the guy with the least amount of leverage.

That at least potentially allows Tepper to continue influencing things like staff choices. Likewise means he's less likely to demand a long-term, fully guaranteed contract.

This is one of the stupidest decisions in team history. They are literally the only team pursuing Canales, you can at least wait until next week to talk to Macdonald, Monken, and Johnson and he will still be there with NOBODY interested in him.

God fuging forbid anyone with a spine gets the job.

It could turn out to be good, but I definitely have concerns...

- one year coordinator

- nobody else was pursuing him for a second interview that I saw

- would have only had to wait 3 days to interview one of the championship guys

- makes it seem like an impatient / panic / bidding against ourselves move

As always, I hope it works. In this case, I'm not so much down on the candidate as I am how the hiring process played out.

Where else did he interview?

Monken is only a few years younger than Reich and won't have an MVP candidate at QB. Why does his name keep coming up?

Canales managed to make Baker relevant again

there are similarities with Yoing and Baker

Smaller size.  Not great arm strength etc

better rolling to see the field

might as well hope as not

i do not believe young is the answer in the nfl but maybe improved this year with a simpler offense

designed for him vs against

as Einstein said paraphrased ‘if you expect a fish to climb a tree, you will always be disappointed’

What? Baker Mayfield has one of the best arms in the league.

would be nice to see Carroll join him here in some role. after last year's shitshow we need our coaching staff to all be on the same page so I expect much of the staff to have worked with Canales in the past. Will be interesting to see if we keep Evero, hopefully Tepper isn't forcing it on him but if he wants to keep him then I'm all for it.

I’m just throwing his name up to say let the guy at least get a second interview. If we are forced to hire a nobody because there isn’t anyone decent out there that wants the job, then at least interview all the nobodies.

    • Not sure who said it first, but Tepper is the correct answer. Still, I'm gonna go with Kasay keeping it inbounds. If, you subscribe to the butterfly effect version of time travel consequences.... When we win SBXXXVIII everybody's lives change: Moose never breaks his leg, We win it all again in 05. Tommy Jone is unknown and Peppers stays home, Champs once more 2008. No artificial pig heart turning JR into a creepy weirdo, no lockout, no Clausen. Fox and Jake ride off into the sunset on their own terms. No 2-14, no #1 pick. But, no laptop, no Blinn, 3 years behind The Golden Calf of Bristol, we still get Cam. JR let's him grow his locs like he always wanted, Smitty sees Cam in a new light. Dreads swinging, (and Smitty with his 3 Lombardis behind him) Cam is old enough to get those calls. No Manning narrative, Cotchery TD, PI against Talib on Philly Brown, 10,000 RTP calls and Kony Ealy SB50 MVP. No Jeans Fridays, no Tepper. KB doesn't slip on his own meatsweat mid-route in SD, Cam becomes the 1st QB to win 10 straight SBs. Retiring after being elected 47th president of the US of A, Cam ushers in the Permanent Proletarian Revolution across the globe, Xi Jinping bows in awe. "ẄøŘƙƐṛ§ őF ŧĤə ŵØRłð, ŮŊÏŦƐ!!!"
    • Yeah your right the owner was copping hand shandies while all this was going down
    • I mean not surprised the Patriots took him in and aren't trying to push him out. They've been the most morally bankrupt team in the NFL for a long while. Wouldn't be surprised if Vrabel has his own dirt on Kraft/Brady and other assholes from that organization over the last couple decades.
