So what about the Ravens game then?  They put up 17 points in 11 drives.  Not only that, but they scored 14 points on the first two drives and then put up 3 points in the last 9.  So that doesn't really seem to jive with your last point.  You kinda seem to be making murky unsubstantiated claims.  Like what's your evidence that Playoff Mahomes is on a whole different level?  To me, he's consistently elite in the regular season and in the playoffs.  It's not like a Joe Flacco situation during his Super Bowl run with the Ravens.  If anything stands out in the playoffs, it's Mahomes' Clutch factor.  And "clutchness" doesn't typically mean you just dominate the entire game, but rather your ability to come through when it matters the most, i.e. what happened in the Super Bowl in OT.

The Ravens were the only team with a better DVOA than the Niners. So you're telling me that their D over performed but gave up points late while their offense struggled? Sounds like they need to fire their DC per Shanny logic.

Are you talking about Total DVOA?  Cause unless I'm looking at the wrong site...then if you wanna go by DVOA, the 49ers were 1st in Offense DVOA and 4th in Defense DVOA.  So that would suggest their offense was overperforming more, relative to their defense on the year...no?  I don't even particularly care about that stat, but you keep bringing it up so I looked into it.

This is unfair. Shanahan didn't even have the team prepared to make sure they knew the OT rules.

How is that Wilks fault?

There hasn't been nearly enough dragging of Shanny for taking the ball in OT. Given the new playoff OT rules you HAVE to kickoff. If you don't you're an idiot.

Crazy scapegoat

My man got them all the way to the super bowl in his first year on the team and the defense kept them in the game all the way to overtime!!!

My guess is Kyle Shannahan is feeling some kinda pressure from higher ups and made him as scapegoat.

Total horse poo in my honest opinion!!!

I mean, I don't think it is controversial to call him better in the postseason vs regular season.  He is better essentially across the board statistically in the postseason...and that generally is vs tougher defenses

There's 35 quarterbacks in NFL history with at least 10 playoff starts. Mahomes is the only one to improve his numbers from the regular season to the playoffs in each of these five categories: win percentage, completion percentage, touchdown percentage, interception percentage and rush yards per game.

and then if you deep dive into his playoffs stats....he has some freaky stuff in there.

Mahomes is 7-for-7 converting playoff drives with under a minute left in regulation and trailing by seven or fewer points. He is the only perfect player in those situations since 2001. Meanwhile, Tom Brady is 5-for-11 (46%) and the league average is 40% in that span.

He's 5-2 in the playoffs down 10+ points (rest of NFL is 8-55 since 2018)

Patrick Mahomes the best closer since Jordan, the comeback king like Brady and more mind-blowing playoff stats - CBSSports.com

I think the logic is that if both teams score a TD and it goes to sudden death, you get the ball first in sudden death, which I get the logic of. Everyone’s just blasting it cause it didn’t work.

the bigger mistake was not running the ball/going for a FG in their last drive before OT. They threw, it was incomplete and kept them out of FG range

    • You should because before the preseason fiasco and the start of the season fiasco, all the reports, including Frank’s responses, were that Fitterer and Reich were in lock step. Remember the press conference where Fitterer talked about both he and Frank saying who they wanted before and after the draft process and that they both picked Young and it was glorious? People got hung up on Tepper saying the point guard analogy in April when Brown was interviewed by a Panthers reporter describing how a QB needs to be a point guard in huge detail. That was in February. I think Tepper was just parroting Brown to make himself look like he knew what he was doing. Mrs. Tepper hugging Bryce always overshadowed CJ saying how he called her Mama Tepp. We fuged up as a team, probably more so because Fitterer always said he had Young as his #1 the year before, probably because we looked at all the QBs that year as well. Reich’s love for CJ started when he got on the hot seats for frankly doing a horrific job. He's been in the league a long time and has a lot of media friends and that was a face saving CYA which we know well with many years of Hurney. Still amazing to think how much better the team was under Rhule/Hurney before Fitterer got any control when Rhule was on the hot seat.
    • I loved jStew but let’s not forget he was almost always held out from practice  due to some nagging injuries
