Offensive Playmaker vs BPA

I’ll again throw out that I’m really hoping for WR/CB at 33/65 because I think we have better chances of getting legit above average starters or better.

I just don’t see Bozeman, BC and Corbett as above average starters.

The only spots where I’d say we are above average are Moton, Brown and Burns. You could argue for Luvu and maybe Shaq (if healthy) but I would put them as average starters. I can’t put Horn in the top tier because honestly, we really don’t know how good he is.

All our other starters are easily replaced.

Most of us are and the reason why going OL in a deep CB and WR draft doesn't really compute.  Anything is possible and if a run on DBs and WRs takes place, then other positions will fall, including OL. In that scenario, I wouldn't be opposed to taking OL.  Outside of that, you take the skill positions in a deep class where you lack those very skill players.

Deal is more than likely the BPA will be an offensive player.

Besides safety, punter, LS(age tho..), kicker. Panthers need talented starters and depth everywhere.

Even if morgan starts hitting on rounds 2-7, it will still take 3 years min,  to even think about .500. Thats if the other nfc south teams keep terrible HCs employed and dont find a franchise QB during those 3 years. Odds are they will hire better coaches and at least one will find that golden QB. Which pushes the panthers to 5 years before they are able to post a winning record.

Sad times bros...

I’m all for BPA (within reason) and I do agree that this team needs talent everywhere, but….

Our biggest single issue right now is the QB position and has been for some time.  Wether it is Bryce, a vet, or some future draft pick we have to improve the offense to the level that we can properly evaluate whatever QB is under center.

The QB position is the wildcard, it’s the position that almost has some luck involved.  Don’t make it harder by not surrounding him with quality players.

Once you figure out the offense you can improve the defense later.

Think about it, it’s easier to fix a defense.  If you willing to spend draft picks or cap you can improve the defense with more certainty.  Whereas there seems to more more luck involved with finding a QB.

I would love to see a WR, guard, WR, center type of draft.

Figure to get a new discussion going now that we're fresh into the offseason.

The question:

Is the lack of offensive playmaking a big enough need to supersede BPA?

Context:

Looking at any good offense that doesn't have a playmaking QB (Mahomes, Allen, Lamar), they have THAT guy at minimum.  CMC, Tyreek, Jefferson, Gibbs/St Brown, Lamb...you get the picture.

We have nothing.  Thielen and Mingo may be the only carryovers at WR, and Hubbard is the only potential carryover at RB.  Nothing really at TE (although I still like Tremble as a long term TE2)

Is this void critical enough to prioritize over the rest? Or should we exercise patience with building an offense and find the best player we can, position regardless?  This idea can also extend outside the draft in respect to priority FA/trade targets.

And with the uncertainty with Bryce-- is getting a legit weapon critical to his success or do you risk prioritizing BPA, hoping he elevates above-average talent for another season?

Can we rebuild by finding the best foundation pieces possible or prioritize offensive weapons? I can see how it could feasibly be a combination of both, but if you had to choose, going into 2024 -- where do you lean?

we need so much it  wouldn't be wrong either way.

I feel like the urge for a stud WR or offensive playmaker is at its core just a way to prove Bryce wasn't a bust.

Thats a trap we need to avoid at all cost.

If those two things are not mutually exclusive (BPA & WR) great, we have a swisscheesey roster.

Got to go BPA

* also not saying bryce IS a bust, and we DO need better help at WR/OL… take away is the good teams let the draft develop ahead of them and work within that.

I don't think this team is anywhere close to being "one guy away", so I agree with everyone saying BPA. If the guy is a DT but a stud we could use that. If he's a G and a stud we could use that. CB, DE, TE, WR, etc. I don't think there is a single position I'd be upset with drafting outside of RB (value) or S (value)

We got to let the dominos fall. So many needs that BPA is the way. I'm not tied to WR as the pick. If a top OL, CB, or DL is there at 33 you do it.  Honestly RB, Safety or ILB are the few positions I would be disappointed by. We need help everywhere almost.

It’s not about proving he isn’t a bust, it’s about putting him in a situation to fairly evaluate him.  Even if he is a bust, then the same holds true for the next QB, he needs to be in a situation where he can succeed.
