Russell Wilson

Getting out ahead of it early because you know this will come up eventually. He'll be cut by the Broncos this offseason and Canales coached him directly for 4 years (and was WRs coach before that since before Wilson got drafted), so there are significant ties to him. Dalton is under contract but can easily be cut.

Would you consider signing Russ? Yay or nay?

Personally not a fan but I could see us considering him because of Canales' ties to him. Would probably come cheap and could actually push Bryce more than Dalton at this point. But I wouldn't really want him in the locker room and his play on the field with the Broncos has been uninspiring to say the least.

I actually read that Russ would likely be had relatively cheap compared to most FA QB's because he would have so much guaranteed by Denver anyway....but I still don't know if he moves the needle much more than what we have

Yeah, what a great idea. After cratering our draft capital on a trade up to botch drafting a QB, let's crater our cap space on an idiotic signing of a past his prime vet living off of name recognition and past performance.

Wait... this seems pretty damn on brand for Tepper's football organization. Now I'm kinda worried.

Russ won't be cratering anyone's cap space or getting any term on his next deal, lol.

    • He makes a good point about Wallace.  In fairness to Wallace it is hard to play your position as freely as you need to when your defensive line is getting pushed around like ragdolls.  One of the greatest attributes a defensive line has is sucking up blocks, freeing up your linebackers.  Our defensive line couldn't suck up a lollipop more or less blocks.  I think Evans, Sanders and Tremble are going to be a really nice TE group.  I can see all three getting time on the field.  If Sanders can improve as a blocker teams won't be so inclined to believe it is a pass play whenever Sanders is on the field.  Ryan Fitzgerald, I think was an awesome pick-up. Hopefully he can fill our kicker void. Luke Kandra many turn out to be our next Norwell.  Everything I have heard about him says he's a beast.  He needs some refinement, but the good news is he's got Hunt and Lewis (arguably the best guard tandem in the league) to learn from.
    • Great teams build through the draft and have several young players that start that are on rookie contracts. It's important to hit on players in rounds 4 thru 7.  These should be future starters and solid depth.  When you hit on most of your picks you free up a lot of cap space for those one- or two-year players to fill spots you are thin at. No GM is going to perfect on all their picks.  You're going to whiff every once in a while.  That was Hurney problem.  He'd nail the first pick but after that it was reach after reach and we couldn't get any depth on this team. I'm excited about Morgan as our GM and hopefully he'll be around a long time.  It will be even better if Canales can continue to grow as a head coach, both in the development of young players and play calling. I remember last season after Young came back in the lineup and started to perform well.  We saw different plays I had only seen other teams use.   If Canales's play design and play calling continue to grow. Morgan and Canales will be linked together for a long time.  It would be nice to see a Coach and GM together for a decade or two. Go Panthers
    • They also came out for the encore and the singers were dressed in canes jerseys. Pretty fuging cool.
