Division Talk: Falcons are heavy favorites to land Justin Fields

If I'm the Falcons I'm going after Cousins in FA.

Cousins or Wilson, depending on the cost for either.

Fields is actually a bad gamble. You have to decide on his 5th year deal almost immediately, so it could end up being a more expensive bust than you had planned on if you do that and he plays the way he has in his first three years.

Cousins or Wilson offer an option to immediately be the best team in the NFC South.

Keep an eye on the Steelers.  As much talk as there is about Fields going to the Falcons, the Steelers rumblings aren't fading away.

At this point I think Atlanta gets the first crack, BUT if somehow things don't go swimmingly with a proposed deal with the Bears, expect the Steelers swoop in and snag Fields.

Shefty said the Steelers were always the most realistic landing spot.

The Atlanta rumors just seem to be media driven. I said the Falcons should be going after Cousins as he is the best QB available. Cousins with those weapons the Falcons easily win the South.

They are probably weighing what it would take to get to #2 or #3 versus a trade for Fields.  Obviously if the Bears are dealing Fields, they are staying at #1 to take Williams.

As far as Cousins goes, I think he'll want to go to a team that's a closer to a title run.  He'll only go to Atlanta if they are the highest bidder by a wide margin.

Honestly they are in a great position, either to stay put for QB4, move up for QB2/3, trade for Fields or sign a solid veteran like Cousins.

I mean Atlanta is obviously the best choice for Cousins if he's trying to win.

He has to go through Detroit/GB if he stays in Minnesota.

Atlanta is not the only team in need of a veteran QB.  Agreed playing for the Vikings is an uphill battle in that division.  Maybe he likes the team, doesn't want to move and not shy about the challenge of stiff competition, who knows?  Cousins to Atlanta makes sense, but it's no where close to a slam dunk.

Just for the record I think he stays in Minny. Just saying if I was him I would go to Atlanta.

Not sure what has been discussed, but they recently announced that fields is not getting the offers the Bears had hoped to get...Russell Wilson getting released is going to make him cheaper without a trade.  Cousins is now the favorite in Atlanta if he moves, but their second choice is Baker Mayfield.

Oh my.

    • Jack Roslovic: Only 2 other UFA, right-handed centers age 28 or under had more points (39) than him- Sam Bennett (51) and Pius Suter (46). There were 4 other centers age 33 and older who scored more: Gireaux (37), Marchand (37), Tavares (34), Granlund (33).  Unless the Canes go old, if they let Jack walk, they won't get a center who scored more.  Thoughts?
    • nope     This is why we come back every year.  Hope springs eternal
    • It's important to differentiate criticism and hate. I can't speak for that individual you quoted. But most people who have been critical of the Tepper's have been so because both of them have made it a point to put themselves front and center and in the middle of team operations and we have been largely horrific more often than not as a result. If people are making derogatory remarks about her that should be met with an appropriate response but if people are being defensive just because she's being criticized all I can say is people should get used to it. Both her and David would have been getting absolutely skewered by the media and the fans if this were a big market franchise. The Lakers are finally being sold off after years and years of public criticism of Jeannie Buss and even though I'm the furthest you could go from being a Lakers fan just about anyone you could meet who is familiar with the NBA would say the criticism was certainly valid.
