Who is your day 3 Qb?

For the chance it could turn into a Lance/Purdy or Cousins/RG3 situation

That’s the dream, but that’s a huge waste of a pick for a team that needs depth at other positions.

Even if we got a Purdy like talent, would we even know? Those situations happened because circumstances forced unlikely guys into the starting role.

Such an enormous long shot.

What about Spencer Rattler? There is some potential there with him being in a bad team last year with zero protection.

I think he may go Day 2. From the sounds of it, he really impressed at his Pro-Day. I think a lot of teams are circling him as the late QB that has the best chance at becoming a starter in this league.

You are probably right and he wont even be there day 3 to have that choice to consider unfortunately.

How do we know Andy Dalton is washed?

the last half decade?   5 different teams.   Been called into action for 43 times to start for those 5 teams.   Never posted a winning record as a starter with any of them when called up.

Given where we are with Bryce Young.  We don't really need a warm body to come in a survive a game.  We need a veteran we potentially would just give the keys to IMO down the stretch if we move on.  Or if Bryce just got knocked out for the season.  I don't consider that Dalton at this stage.

For me, I want a back up we turn the team over to and us actually be able to compete OR another young guy with potential.   I see Dalton as survive a week here or there option.

Milton

If Milton is there in Round 6, grab him. He's basically the anti-Bryce-Young. Big. Powerful arm. But doesn't throw well on the move. Put him behind the monster line we're building and let him let that cannon loose. At the very least we could use him as our Hail Mary 60-yards through the air to the end-zone specialist.

Alternatively, I'd take Tua's little brother Taulia from Maryland in 7 or UDFA. If we're building a system designed to prop up a smaller QB, Taulia could step in and bring a little more of a gun-slinger attitude to the backup position.

If you're looking for someone we turn the team over to if Bryce ends up a bust or gets injured wouldn't you rather it be a young guy we get in the draft late round just to see if he can catch lightning in a bottle? I understand a vet who is considered a first round bust for a backup but at that point the whole season is a wash anyhow so why not a young draft pick late rounder to see if we could make him the starter?

I think Dalton is fine as a backup and looked so/so okay last season in his one outing but we could draft a late round QB and have him waiting in the wings to take over if Bryce doesn't pan out or gets hurt and perhaps find someone worth at least being a long term backup or better, a hidden gem.

I mean, I'm cool with Bryce taking us to the gutter again if that's how it trends.

your bolded is just where I'm at.  I mean, Dalton is just whatever to me.  I'd rather of us have something else cooking in the QB kitchen.  Add some young kid.   Play the lotto.  Keep Dalton if you want but I want the QB depth chart to be something other than just Dalton behind Bryce.
