The Offense and its Impact on Bryce Young and the WR(s) we draft

I'm just in wait and see mode. I honestly don't think Bryce is it but we're committed to see it out for at least another year so let's just wait and see. It's pretty much all we can do as fans.

The types of WRs I see Bryce needing are slot types. Basically quick guys who can win off the LOS and get open quickly. Bryce doesn't have good NFL arm talent. We have to rely on what we drafted him for - his mind. He's gotta process it fast, see it, and deliver it. He needs to be absolutely elite pre-snap. Let's see if he is a super processor because if he's not then he ain't it and we need to figure it out one way or the other moving forward.

is saying we are going to have a strong running game really any different than Frank Reich claiming we are going to have this creative offense that was being held secret?

Canales has 1 season to his name.  He had the worst rush attack in the NFL.

I think that's just a coach saying stuff.  Only really way to have a strong rush attack is to line up under C and play old school football....or have an elite rusher.  I don't see how we will be in position to have a strong rush attack this year.  We have average RBs.  Lining up under C all game until we can't and pounding the rock doesn't jive with Bryce Young or developing the former #1 overall we gave up the farm for.

I think Canales says the run stuff because our QB was bad last year and he knows we got a LOT of work to do on the pass game.

The whole run the ball bs goes out the window the second we get behind two scores. I hope Canales has more up his sleeve than a run first mentality and hoping the defense balls out. Yeah he's younger but basically immediately mentioned how he's not an offensive guru so that's super encouraging lol

Is Bryce really that smart or is that just the narrative for him? I did not really see much evidence last season that he is smarter at QB than any other JAG we have been trotting out there lately.

Wanting smart football players is like wanting your lawyer to have a fast 40 time. It's nice but not necessary.

Honestly, it's all speculation until September.  I take everything our organization says with an entire shaker of salt.

I will continue to hope for our success, but I won't get excited about it until we actually see it on the field.

I honestly don't get the "weak arm" point. I wouldn't compare his arm to prime Cam Newton or Josh Allen, but I'd say it's comparable to Drew Brees or Tua. Not elite, but more than good enough. I don't know if he has the lift to throw the ball late on a go-route or a fade going away from him on the other side of the field. But he can complete a first or second option deep route based on arm strength. He wouldn't have won a Heisman playing in the SEC if he couldn't do that. Not as a passing QB.

It was never high end but they are saying it’s average now, which seems more accurate. I think it’s probably below the average QB but it also gets overblown on here. Somewhere between the average fan and the Huddle sounds right.

Many many people including our own front office really looked at CJ Stroud's arm talent and said...

Yeah, never thought he had high end velocity on his throws. That definitely is not his game.

Average velocity, with high end ability to throw at different angles. And Bryce does lose velocity with those awkward throws. Mahomes can throw with velocity at all angles. He's just a freak.
