  1. 1. What is your draft grade?

Ask me in five years whether this draft class was good or not.

Having said that, I'll grade the 2019 draft...

R1 P16: Brian Burns - I'll argue this was a good pick. At the minimum, he was worth enough to have gotten a seriously good offer of picks which, in retrospect, we should've taken. But we still got something for him and his new team gave him a ton of money.

R2 P37: Greg Little - Utter and complete flop. Only real value was somehow getting a 7th rounder from the Dolphins.

R3 R100: Will Grier  - Played godawful the rare times he was on the field. Somehow still in the league.

R4 P115: Christian Miller - Nothing of note.

R5 P154: Jordan Scarlett - I don't think he even lasted two years.

R6 P212: Dennis Daley - Some flashes of promise but we eventually traded him for some picks. Was terrible in Tennessee. I'll consider this a success since we got picks back.

R7 P237: Terry Godwin - Did not last here long at all.

In summary, we got one quality starter... who is now gone. Daley might've been the second best player of this class and he was a middling backup at best. Burns saved this class from being a complete disaster.

The grades for our classes at year 5 are rarely higher than immediately after the draft. We have been supremely talented at having terrible drafts recently. But, that's how you end up with one of least talented rosters in the NFL.

On paper today, a C. A WR with all the tools, but not polished. A talented RB coming off of ACL repair. A pass catching TE with good not great speed and not a great blocker. Two in the box LBs that aren't great in coverage. A DT with average at best pass rushing skills. An undersized slot Corner. A lot of boxes checked, but it all depends on how good the scouting department is and how they develop. In 2 to 3 years, we will know if it's much better, the same or much worse than what we thought

That class on the whole was hellla bad, but the fact is what a makes a great class is lots less than what us fans think.

2 average-good starters

1 top backup/4 phase STer

that's a great class.

So given team have 7-8/9(comps) draft picks each year, just hitting on 30% equals success.

You can look up Ozzie Newsome, who some think is the best GM ever. His 2010-2015 years were GOD awful, Id even say worse than Marty "give me a" herniay. He only had one great pick in CJ mosley, maybe a couple good starters...... the remains are trash.

I think we had an average to above average solid draft with 3 potential starters. If Wallace can fill in for Shaq at a high level next year it was a great draft (assuming XL, Brooks, and Sanders are all starting).

To trade up one spot to get a 5th year option makes no sense to me. Either a player is good enough to extend before the option year or he becomes a malcontent that 5th year

D for Dan and Dave

Its leverage my friend, it was only for a 5th-6th swap. AJ brown just got 32 million per in new dollars. Legette 5th option should be around 13 million. He would be 28-29 if he plays under it as well. That's a 20% control factor if legette balls out, HUGE when the money is talked about.

Its about control.

Im not a big legette fan, but that was crazy to me seeing billy beane undervalue that discounted option. He did Morgan and the Panthers a big favor. Other reports were Pats were after a WR and got close to a trade, but billy knew who we wanted.

Need to send billy a Costco gift card....

Wallace is good at covering the TE and RB. Coverage is not a problem for him. The other one I couldn't tell you. But the rest is mostly accurate to a degree.

In the name of just entertaining the idea…

I’d go around B-/C+.   I wouldn’t say it was great vs what some did and it wasn’t bad.   We didn’t have a first rounder and unless you have a top pick it’s hard to feel like someone is going to have an immediate impact on things.

Those top 3, I think really had a good draft on paper.  For whatever a good draft on paper is.

I think outside of someone like Atlanta, I’d throw most teams in the same boat

    • Brady, Gronk, and Edelman were all together clowning what a horrible idea it would be for Bill to be a college coach on live TV yesterday.   I’d probably listen to their collective advice if I was UNC
    • A few folks that said they knew 100% that BY9 would never be an NFL QB due to his size (and that fans supporting him are just delusional) are now butthurt over being called a hater? Le gasp. 😱    Glad some folks are coming around. There's a huge difference in "Show me at an NFL level" vs. "He's never thrown further than 20yds in his entire life" It's nice to see the folks in the former coming around to the point of allowing themselves (and others!) to enjoy Panther football. Bryce has gone through a hell of a start to his career that would've easily broken many other young QBs. Glad to see the young man staying mentally well and competing for his teammates.
    • Didn't Moose drop a lot of passes early in his career? Legette needs to put in work in the offseason and not down on the farm.
