Does anyone actually think Bryce will actually be good?

Every year it looks like someone does a sales pitch to Tepper and that's what he goes with. It's also why it has been a horror show on the outcome side.

The hard thing about Bryce is he is likable so people not only like him but feel like they need to defend the good guy. If he was a jerk like Wilson was on the Jets then they could just have signed a QB off the heap to try and Baker into the playoff this year while being justified but not with Bryce.

I can't believe people let McG scam them. I guess some people have money to burn and like to be sold regardless of reality.

I have been looking at it like Tepper was driving those he employed to get him the QB he wants. As soon as he finished his year of learning the business side, and graduated himself from his year learning the football side.

edit: not on the inside and don’t have any factual evidence to back up my impression.

This is some weird vestigial evolutionary trait that helped a group of monkeys work together to take the watering hole and no of course there's no modern day political equivalent why you imply such a thing.

I liked this part the best.

So, electro, ....

Bryce Young scammed professionals all throughout the league?

This isn't Ryan Leaf, although he was pretty obvious a bust before even drafted.

Perhaps we did get scammed.

I, personally, have zero issues admitting my short comings, the times I was an idiot despite knowing I'm actually not one. Damn those moments anyways.  I also have no problems admitting to being scammed.

I think the biggest scam last season was that the team did their best to put an offense around Bryce, and that the offensive line, that performed well under Wilks, was going to be a strength.  We can't even call it a weakness last year, as it was a complete failure.

I know everyone wants to be done with this experiment now. Hence why so many have dug in so deep to defend their perspectives.

Very rarely does it go that way unless your team was dumb enough to draft Johnny Football.

Even at hyberbole this is simply not true.  No rational fan/poster wants young gone now.  Even I, his most critical poster, says he should get another year to show something with the new additions.  However, I think we all know how this movie ends based on the 16 game sample size we saw last year.  Everything has to be perfect for him to excel and brother that is next to impossible to have that consistently in the nfl.   His physical size will forever deter him as long as he is qb for numerous reasons that have been laid out in the past 28 pages.  How the fug could a nfl front office go through that process and still think a 5'10 180 lb qb that didnt take snaps under center was worth what we gave up for him?

you're conflating different things here. the performance of different parts of the team between 2022 and 2023 is a separate issue. I think a generally overlooked component is how bryce's poor play impacted the line play, but that's a different topic.

we can't say he scammed professional "all over the league" because no other teams were given the right to draft him. All teams lie about who they're going to draft, or who they did draft. Obviously not every team gets the player who was at the top of their board etc. And obviously if the entire draft thinks a team is going to take someone like bryce at 1, who they don't think can play, they're going to leak like hell that he's the top qb on the board to shift every player down one spot.

I'm not saying this happened, but I don't see any reason to believe league officials all over were sold on bryce. whispers from anonymous sources and ESPN reporting doesn't mean a thing to me.

Bryce himself isn't a scam artist. He's just a kid whos path was set before him who was always surrounded by coaches and players who were better than everyone else. Maybe he's a super nice guy too I dunno. if you want to attribute it to a single person or entity, i guess the alabama hype machine or the draft process would be what you want. the bama hype machine is absolutely a real thing, and they have very close ties to the networks, especially cbs. Saban is/was incredibly powerful in the football world, and we know for a fact he tries to get his players drafted as high as possible to use as a recruiting tool. the other is the networks that have to put on like 3 months of coverage about nothing and there's nothing better than "what qb goes at 1" because that's easy to understand for the lay person and it involves the two biggest schools in college football.

let me ask a different question. when tepper was watching nfl draft stuff or reading insider info on what qb was going to be better, who do you think tepper thought the audience was supposed to be?

we'll never know exactly why the panthers suddenly switched from seemingly all in on CJ to Bryce. people are going to say we never knew they were going CJ, but the same analysts and insiders who all suddenly said in lock step the panthers were taking bryce were saying the same thing about CJ before <whatever> happened. I mean poo Benjamin Albright, who for some reason knows a ton about the Panthers, said this in JANUARY...

Quote

“I wouldn’t be surprised if they were the team that traded all the way to No. 1,” Allbright said. “I do think CJ Stroud [is] the apple of their eye—obviously the scouting process hasn’t completely played out yet. But I do think, talking to people, CJ is kinda the guy they’ve kinda eyeballed.”

https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/2023/01/26/panthers-cj-stroud-trade-2023-nfl-draft-apple-of-eye/

That's what I mean by scam. Tepper, and by extension the Panthers fans, were scammed by a huge process that Our Special Boy let go to his head because he saw himself as an audience of one. He took seriously a process and spectacle that was just meant to keep eyes on the tv in the months before the draft, despite Bryce's obvious, glaring shortcomings. No one is saying Bryce wasn't put into a bad situation, I just don't think it would have mattered and I didn't see a single thing to suggest otherwise.

The second he showed up to the combine in a fat kid sweater he should have been off the board.

And calling Ryan Leaf a scam artist isn't fair at all. He went to the worst situation in football, got hurt, became addicted to pain killers (which almost definitely led to harder drugs) and spiraled. Especially given what we now know about the Chargers team doctors....

He doesn’t have the NFL size or arm strength and right now his processing has been bust

to me he is Danny Wuerfeul 2.0 but he’ll get 2 more seasons to sink or swim

His elite trait is supposed to be processing the field but his short stature mitigates that because he cannot see the field on a regular basis.

I am not sure how you mitigate this, you cant roll out of the pocket on every play or scramble into sacks like he did last season.

I don't believe any site that is ran by fans. So much of that is what they want.

Most were saying that the Panthers wasn't leading on anyone in particular throughout most of the draft.

When the team was as the Stroud pro day, was when most fans hitched themselves to Stroud.

I am under the impression that our star studded coaching staff and our GM ultimately led the team to picking Young.  I know Tepper absolutely signed off on it, as he's the owner of the team and no QV drafted 1st overall isn't going to have the owners blessing.

Stroud did a fantastic job in Houston. Pretty sure he wouldn't have enjoyed then same success here.

Either way, it's water under the bridge.

Our franchise as a whole doesn't do well when selecting a QB to draft. Cam being the outlier.

I also don't believe the story with Young and the Panthers is even close to being written yet.  Does that make me one that got dupped?   I feel I'm pretty unbiased when I make my opinions, despite wanting all Panthers to succeed. You can be both.

That’s quoting Benjamin Albright who is a beat writer for the broncos. It just appeared on that site for the Google search.

Asking if you’re the one getting duped is, well…

also I deleted it accidentally but this is absolutely not water under the bridge. That implies something happened that we are over.  That everyone has moved on.

we absolutely have not moved on. We’re going to suffer through it until Bruce is off the team, and probably until they have a winning season again.

this is more like water as a wave crashing repeatedly into our dick. And the water is full of jelly fish. And the jelly fish all have herpes.

I completely agree on the Ben Allbright stuff and it being very weird that all signs were pointing to us drafting Stroud and suddenly it flipped.

No source but I still believe Morgan voted Stroud. Doesn't matter- if it looks like Bryce still can't play this season we're drafting top 3 at worst and moving on.
