Not as big a slap as we'd hope.

The NFL has officially disciplined the Falcons for tampering with free agents this offseason, including quarterback Kirk Cousins.

According to a news release from the NFL, the team had improper contact with Cousins, wide receiver Darnell Mooney and tight end Charlie Woerner during the two-day negotiating period prior to the start of the 2024 League Year.

The team will forfeit its fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and pay a fine of $250,000, while General Manager Terry Fontenot will pay a $50,000 fine.

I'm not sure the punishment is even enough to determine this type of behavior by any team in the NFL.

Basically, you can tamper all you want to in order to secure whatever free agent you want, as long as you're willing to part with a day 3 pick.

Seems like chump change to me.

The NFL doesn't care about tampering. I mean, if tampering helps you get a FA you really want at the most important position in sports losing a 5th round pick is WELL worth it. That's not going to deter anything. Hell, it might actually ENCOURAGE tampering.

Exactly.

Ya gotta think about it, I mean going into FA if there's a player you really want at a premium position just start doing the math. Okay, what are the odds we actually get caught? Okay, the precedent is it'll cost us a 5th IF we get caught and we WANT this guy. Yeah, hit that motherfuger up, let's GO!

    • I agree with OP notion, QBs always get credited for game winning drives even if they do minimal. Just last night Caleb got credited for a GE drive when they basically ran the ball the whole drive and only had to go 36 yards.   And there are drives where Bryce could of had a game winning drive if not for a Legette drop vs Philly or a Chubba fumble vs Tampa
    • You are actually, genuinely comparing Bryce to Jimmy fuging Pickles? Jimmy accounted for 3 touchdowns in his 10 starts in 2010. In Bryce’s 10 games post benching last year, he accounted for 20 touchdowns. Jimmy threw three touchdowns in 2010. Three. Bryce has thrown 10 touchdowns through 6 games. He is currently on track to throw for 3300 yards, 28 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Wtf are we even talking about anymore. I mean seriously
    • Tepper? The guy that directs the coaches towards goals that he set for them… that guy. He is the one.    I don’t think he ever was going to be expelled from class, they had him come in for garbage time maybe the 2nd week he was benched.  I will say this. People said he wasn’t under pressure the last part of the year when he did better, but he was fighting for his career and that’s pressure. And he saved his career too. I don’t reject him for those kinds of things I reject him for the physical things. I have always brought it down to he has slim margin for error and has to be perfect. People with the tool set have a little fatter margin for error. Why make it harder on yourself? Got nothing to do with hating him.  I am no statistician but game that margin thing out a lot and see how that works.
