Canales - COULD ANY WEEK 1 RUST BE ATTRIBUTED TO NOT PLAYING STARTERS FOR MOST OF PRESEASON?

“It all matters. It all counts. And so that’s something that we gotta think about. But again, we had an opportunity today to play football. We played a lot of football, particularly on defense. We played a lot of football. So we’ll learn a lot from just being able to get this group together and work off each other.”

I said all along it would work out fine if your team comes out looking at least competent and competitive. Don't necessarily need a win just need to give hope. But the other side to the coin is a horrific blow out loss. Well....Dave has earned himself his first heaping portion of criticism.

I hope that’s parody, but it is scary that I can’t tell

Not playing the starters together in a game situation with so many new faces is stupidity

I mean yea we all know that. But hey guy is admitting he has more to learn. I have this feeling that Tepper is telling him not to play starters because it’s been a theme in the previous coaches like Rhule in particular.

He and Kamala should get together. “Today, we played football. And football is a game, ya know? HAHAHAHA. Anyway, they play this game, football, on a field, with a ball, and we did that today. We played. And we, you know, have cameras that record it. So, you know what cameras do? Okay, good. Yeah, we will use what cameras do, an we will, like, watch the recording, like this one time I was a kid”.

this game was awful and I am in no way surprised.

I hate sounding like the bitter old guy but  I remember when training camp was more like boot camp and not vacation Bible school.

2 a days, full pads full contact conditioning the bodies for the rigors of an NFL regular season.  Did injuries happen?  Sure and it sucked but guys were ready week 1.

The CBA and these soft ass poo boys have ruined a great sport.

I will say we were not the only team that looked ineffective and out of it.

Honestly, as hard as it's going to be for the fans, we need to give Dave time to learn to be an NFL Head Coach.  That's just how I'm looking at things right now.

well i like Canales I honestly do but at  the same time he has no buisness this early in his career  being. a head coach in the NFL

100%. This and all the in-game rule changes in the name of "safety" but really just to increase offense to pander to the general public morons who want to see skills clinics more akin to flag football in 56-53 games rather than pure football. I'm nowhere near a boomer but I'm sounding like one and have no shame about it. Football has gone way downhill in the last decade+

    • I think what makes a qb elite is when every week you think your team has a chance to win because of your qb. No matter who they play, they always make you feel like you have a chance. I have not gotten that feeling once while watching Bryce.
    • Great point!  The quotes from O'Connell about teams failing rookie Qbs and the one about how you coach them after 3 picks and a loss were really interesting.  To me, an idiot with a keyboard, it means NFL teams need to be patience if they are going to have quality QB play. So bringing me to Bryce, is there some benefit to being patient.  I know it's not a particularly popular opinion around here, and even I am having a hard time wrapping my head around it.  Most QBs, when benched lose their confidence.  It takes a LONG time to get it back.  Bryce on the other hand was benched, and came back a different player.  I feel like that's worth a lot more than the physical talents of a guys like AR15... I think Bryce has the mental make up to be a good NFL QB.  His problem will always be his tools.  Now it's on coaching to work around that.  Bryce is more physically gifted than late years Drew Brees (low bar, I know).   While I'm content to see what happens this season, there's a small part of me that says...maybe we should see what grows?  (let me duck and hide from the well earned vitriol the Panthers have earned). Then again, I agree that some guys get it while others just don't.  I'm still hoping for the Panthers and Bryce to find success this season.  But if not, I won't be too surprised if the plug is pulled and there is a restart.
