Had Young been struggling in 2024 the same way he had been in 2023, I would argue the Panthers should have given him more time. That just wasn't the case. He has been much worse. His raw numbers are abysmal and even they are inflated by garbage time, where Carolina has spent most of the second half of its games. His lone touchdown drive through two games came when trailing by 34 points in the third quarter against the Saints in the opener.

In 2023, when the Panthers had at least a 10% chance of winning their games per ESPN's win probability metric, Young's 34.3 QBR and 4.2 yards per dropback were the worst marks in the league for qualifying quarterbacks. In 2024, in those same situations, he has a 1.4 QBR and is averaging 1.1 yards per dropback. While acknowledging it's only a two-week sample, nobody has played that poorly in non-garbage time situations over any sort of extended period of time. The only passer with a sub-20 QBR in those situations who qualified for a passing title was, of all people, former Panthers draftee Jimmy Clausen in 2010.

With the game already out of hand, the goal was likely to find Young some confidence-boosting completions. It didn't happen. On a second-and-7, Canales called for a boot concept to the left side of the field, with three receivers flooding the same side to give Young a half-field read. He successfully exited the pocket and escaped the unblocked rusher, but he didn't set his feet before throwing, and his pass to a wide-open Diontae Johnson missed badly.

Veteran receiver Adam Thielen, believing he was open for what would have been a long completion, visibly signaled his frustration at the end of the play.

Analytics say you  dont draft a 5'10" 180 pounder either...a Heisman to boot....Two points that are the kiss of death.  But Dipper is the smartest man in the room and will override that sht...I don't think Bryce had much of a chance here but coming to the Dipper hotel sealed his fate...and I really don't think Bryce has the balls to change it...

This backlash has truly been sad and was part of the reason I believe Bryce was drafted in the first place. He was small and looked like a kid and everybody just loved that he was also good at football. Once I heard CJ Stroud talking on his podcast tour this summer, I was like well that is the reason he isn't here. I remember the hatred for Cam that basically arose out of him being a massive, confident, black man. Every time a new broadcast crew met him during warmups the telecast was just about how larger than life he was. I even had a friend who is close to Cam's size talk about him sucking the air out of every room goes into like being big, loud, and confident is a bad thing. And many here along with the media never showed any sympathy, empathy, or a second thought to the shite Cam had to put up with while here. Till this day it is either about the stupid fumble that didn't matter that he didn't jump on, or that he only had like one good year. 

So to see this crazy backlash from the sports and social media regarding Canales benching a small, weak, entitled, non verbal QB who is playing terrible, struggling to recognize defenses, missing open WRs, and leaving clean pockets is mind blowing! Only Chase Daniels watched the film before talking this week. Everyone else used it as an opportunity pine for Bryce and crap on organization. Again, I hope someone is dumb enough to give us Josh Rosen compensation for him.

      I hope Bryce balls out. Wouldn't bet the farm on it though. Morgan has to be practical though. He was placed into a situation where he was compelled to give Bryce a long look. There really haven't been any more practical options due to who has been available at the position. The Panthers had already put their chips in with Bryce, so putting more chips in by borrowing against the future and stacking on that by borrowing against the future without really having the requisite draft capital was a nonstarter. We could either dump Bryce and go dumpster diving for known and unknown JAGs at the position, or take out chances and let it play out with Bryce and hope for acceptable returns. Due to what looks like some good moves in the draft and free agency, it appears like we're finally getting into a position where we can take a swing again if need be without destroying the core of the team. I understand that you'll believe it when you see it, but Dan is gonna move on if Bryce can't cut it. There are too many professionals lives and careers tied to Bryce to simply accept the status quo.

      Football is the ultimate team sport. No sport is more dependent on others for your success - including coaching. I don't know if Bryce is the guy, but I do know this has been a very bad team all around since he got here. One of the worst o-lines and coaching staffs I've ever seen his rookie year. One of the worst defenses and receiving groups (including TEs) I've ever seen his 2nd season - with a rookie HC and OC. An improving WR group his 3rd season mostly due to a rookie. The only other WR of note didn't really play well until after the 10th game of the season due to injury. Still no receiving TE to speak of. And lost games because of the worst pass rush in the NFL. And the only speed he's ever had on the field was DJ Chark. A washed up DJ Chark that played here one year and has had 31 yards receiving since leaving.  Carolina had no business moving up for a QB in 2023. They weren't ready. Especially if it meant trading your only good WR to do it. Now finally there's potential on defense. Potential on o-line. Potential at WR, including some actual speed in a game where speed kills. If BY falls on his face this season, then he has to own it. Situation may not be perfect, but it's at least NFL average across the board. I won't beat him up for being bad in bad situations on a bad team. But a 4th year QB has to be able to control the offense and make players/coaches right. The team looks good enough on paper to show what he can do now.

      Mr. 0-2 every year to start the season in his career. Last year was the first year he ever played a week 3 game.
