With the first pick, don't draft a QB? Draft a DE? C'mon!

Drafting a qb in the top 5 and then immediately starting him sounds pretty moronic

You don't have to immediately start him, that depends on the QB, and that should be obvious to anyone who doesn't have a closed mind. It wasn't moronic to start Jayden Daniels, C.J. Stroud, or Cam Newton.  There are more examples. Everyone is not Anthony Richardson, Malik Willis, or Geno Smith.

Honestly this franchise isn’t in a position to develop a QB properly. Signing a vet and getting the roster up to snuff is the best way to go about it imo. Relying on a rookie QB to come in and single handedly turn the franchise around isn’t practical plus there’s no burrows or daniels in this draft anyway

If you go back and look at the 2001 and 2002 drafts that’s exactly what we did. In 2003 that’s when we made our Super Bowl run with Jake.

I’ve gone back several times in the last week or so looking at those drafts and seeing what we did and how it can correlate with what we’re going through right now. They definitely signed savvy veterans and drafted defensive rookies to help that 2003 team along.

Dan Morgan was a part of that and hopefully he can remember that and do something about it.

But more often than not you’re most likely going to hit on an ANTHONY Richardson, Malik Willis or Geno Smith more than getting lucky with a CJ Stroud, Jaydon Daniels or Cam Newton.

Texans and Commanders made it work. You need a good OL (which we have) and some weapons. We need to keep developing XL, Coker, JT, and Brooks to have some weapons. I wouldn’t mind reuniting DC with Godwin if the price is right ( yeah I know he is coming off an injury) It’s Moton’s last year so use it to help get a young QB comfortable. All of this is assuming there is one we like a lot.

Honestly AR looking better his first start than he did his last. Not sure if his regression is film being out or the injuries taking their toll…

I think they should trade out of #1 if possible to stay in top 5 and get a 2nd in 2024. Just need to add talent. Doesn't matter the position. No reaching. No projects. No workout warriors that didn't produce.

If someone calls with a ridiculous offer I would listen but otherwise I'm not looking to trade down. Take the best available and call it a night.

It needs to be BPA. Generational at any position. I don't care if it's LT- Icky can move his big ass over.

Based on this logic, that would be Jeanty/RB/Boise State or Deone Walker/DT/Kentucky. Only if we trade down though. I don’t see a potential franchise QB in the ‘25 draft.

This is how we ended up with Bryce and the Steelers ended up with Pickett.

I don’t think you read your own words. We ended up with Bryce and the Steelers ended up with Pickett because they were poor QB drafts.  Back to Back drafts at that. You can’t assume to build your roster for your QB and then manage to have a high pick in a good QB draft. 22 and 23 were poo. If you think Ward or Sanders  has it then you pull the trigger.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
