Carolina may not "be sold" on young (per athletic)

Call me crazy---you already do----but I think this draft's best NFL QB might not even be a first rounder.  I think Sanders goes before Cam, and if you consider that Hunter will be in the hunt, I think Cam Ward could be there with the third pick.  Based on remaining schedule, this is the best case scenerio for the Panthers, and it is reasonable:

Just curious. Are you suggesting they should have spent that money on defense instead of offense? Because the only defensive player that walked and was worth bringing back was Luvu. And they tried to get him back. He wanted to leave. Paying Burns $30M a year would have been the worst thing they could have done. Even worse than moving up to draft Bryce. That contract would have been crippling to the cap, and for a mediocre player. And I haven't done the math, but it seems there are just as many new players on defense as there are on offense. Injuries have been the biggest issue with that side of the ball.

Improving the worst unit on the team should have always been the priority. Plus a stout o line will attract offensive players like that vet QB everyone wants. Chuba is having a career year. And yes, even Bryce Young is showing some signs of improvement. Change doesn't always happen overnight. But those were the right moves.

I did want us to commit more resources to the offense but I think they swung too hard in one offseason. Now it's going to take another hard swing the other way to get the defense in even halfway decent shape. We're going to know fairly quickly if Morgan is the man to save this franchise.

I worry they are going to succumb to another high pick for whatever hole is left on offense. Like a #1 WR or maybe a QB. I supposed I could stand one but not two.

I think we win 2 more games. I think we pick around 5 or right after.

I don’t know why but I can totally see Sanders playing for the Giants in New York and having a rivalry with Jayden Daniels. I think Hunter goes to Dallas or New England and Ward to Vegas.

I think it depends on the Jets HC next year for what they do- chances are Rodgers is done.

This team tends to go on a playoff tear once they have been eliminated.  Seems Rivera was known for it.  I don't see a game in our future where we will be the favorite--but they could be trap game spoilers.  I am not 100% sold on Ward, so I will be pulling for them to win--I just think a player like Nussmeier or Allar--different styles--could be the better NFL QB.  Then there are the players like Rourke at Indiana and Ohio State's Hamilton---he gets no love--and that short QB from Oregon has some fire.  Ewers at Texas could be good if he can stay healthy--I am basing this on the fact that each year, nobody seems to grab the right QB in the draft--it blows my mind how wrong these experts really are.  I would be delighted to get an Edge and then Allar--if he comes out.  I may be too high on these QBs but several have stepped up this year and made me wonder.

    • I think it's short sighted to judge a QB or HC in a vacuum. They both need good players to be successful. That's the GM's role. And he's young in his role too. His general experience in the league gives him a bit of an advantage/perspective that everyone doesn't have. But he still has to perfect his role as a GM.  But whether they're good or not, they are young in their roles. That is the point I was making. Could they be better at what they do? Of course. But it's hard to have early success when you have so many major areas still figuring out how to do their jobs at the same time. Asking a QB to pass for 4000 yards when neither of his 2 best WRs have played a full season is a tall task. Asking a HC to be an effective HC while he's calling plays when he's only done it for 3 years, and he has a young roster is a tall ask. Especially with a roster with so many holes and lack of talent. But that young label is definitely coming to its end. It's about time to start showing major improvements on offense, defense and coaching. Dan has had 3 drafts/offseasons to improve the roster. Dave has had 2 training camps. Bryce has had 3 seasons, though that first season was a pretty tough situation for anyone to learn, let alone have success. The QB is on the hotseat. Mostly because it's pay up or shut up time. He's ran out of time. Doesn't matter if he has reasons or not.  Not getting into the other stuff. Too many layers to pull back.
