Cam was a god amongst men. His physical attributes were able to cheat a lot of things wrong with the roster. Bryce is a different type of player but we have a better coach and smarter FO than Cam ever had and they will design a team around the QB this time.

So I guess I understand if some Huddlers wanted a Cam Newton. Bryce will never be a Cam. If the physical limitations is because you're comparing him to Cam, then I 100% see it. And I do agree that Cam, Vick, Josh Allen or Lamar are the only QBs that could have any success with this team the last 2 seasons, due to their ability to take over games with their legs. The weapons are not NFL average, and that matters - a lot. Particularly when we're using stats to justify success. No QB is putting up 300 air yards a game. There has to be big plays and RAC to get there consistently. Add in that he's doing it with young guys still figuring out how to be pros, and an older vet WR that was never fast to begin with.

I do see Bryce being able to do the things guys like Cam, Vick, Allen and Lamar can't. He does have a little elusiveness in his game too. He ain't those guys, but he's better than most in that department. The ball placement, touch, anticipation, manipulation of defenders, arm angles, etc. have been really impressive the last month, and inconsistently in the past. If he can continue to improve his deep ball, he's definitely a franchise QB to build around. That's a big if though. Early on, he was possibly the worst deep ball passer I'd ever seen. He's an outlier and not ideal in a lot of areas. But he gets it done his way, and is actually looking like a QB with the clutch gene. And everybody doesn't have that.

Seven people took me saying "Bryce Young's doing a good job, but he needs to be challenged next year" as a personal affront, because it wasn't anointing him as the presumptive league MVP like they demand. Weird people.

I don’t think they took it personal, I think they just thought it was a bad take. We’re past the point of needing to bring in a vet guy who can challenge young and take over if he gets benched. BY9 is QB1 for this franchise. Do we need a backup QB? Absolutely. Do we need a veteran type who can mentor Bryce and challenge him for the starting spot? No. If we bring a veteran in could Bryce still learn from that guy? Of course.

A vet backup is very important when you have a QB on their first contract. But they should not be trying to draft a QB in the first 4 rounds as his backup. I don't think that makes sense at this point. Bryce is the starter now. Another QB would come in as a backup/mentor only. There is no more QB competition. They already did that with Andy after game 2. Bryce earned it with his play on the field.

IMO the team is absolutely not past the point of needing a vet backup and someone who can potentially challenge, at least not this season. The seeming catalyst for his improvement was getting parked on the bench for someone who they felt offered a better chance at winning. The guy went into last offseason as the 'unquestioned guy' and got worse, so why would you take away that air of competition at this point? Let him continue to feel at least some kind of heat and external motivation to improve.

One more season of development and maturity an then sure, that makes sense. But this sample size and the timing is not large enough for that approach.

As a founding member of Bryce Haters Inc., I relinquish my membership. This is everything I wanted to see and more, but most importantly he's showing he is clutch. I'm seeing routine conversions on 3rd and long, an amount of slipperyness that has to be infuriating to play against, and generally excellent decision making.

i'm starting to see that confident face when the back is up against the wall i saw with Cam.

it doesn't look contrived. it's the real deal. it's got me pretty hyped about the future.

my overall wish list still remains and I think the league and our production support it.  I've been hammering it since the day we drafted Bryce.  The Panthers have zero YAC ability.

Bryce Young needs a legit receiving RB and a legit YAC slot WR.   Something he should of had day 1 given how he plays the game.  He still doesn't have that.  Maybe Brooks would have been that but Brooks remains an unknown.

We need to replace Sanders will a legit receiving RB.  That doesn't require big money.  And we need to invest in a quick slot WR to log snaps in the slot with YAC ability.   Thielen might be clutch.  He might have great hands.  But he is a TE that will continue to slow.  He should be a roleplayer that doesn't dominate snaps next year in the slot.

Love to see it, that's the thing he's not just completing throws in garbage time.  That "would be" 98 yard TD drive would have been truly iconic if XL makes the catch.

I disagree and do feel sample size is large enough going into year 3 for him that we are past that, but I respect your opinion on it and think it’s subjective and we both have a fair take. Again, we need a backup QB either way you’re always one hit away from losing your guy.

The only true YAC guy we had was DJ Moore who got traded.

Jalen Hurts got 43 YAC on 108 passing yards

Bryce Young got 52 YAC on 191 passing yards

Josh Allen yesterday had 342 passing yards 184 came from YAC

Thielen, Legette and Coker all have under 100 YAC on the season

    • Also, the fact we are comparing this one to the 10 preseason tells me we are in for another horrible year.
    • Well, they're both in the same league (if you will). During preseason, Fitz went 3/3 & Sauls went 5/6, but of course Sauls was 4/4 last night (including one 50+). Both were Lou Groza Award finalists. I believe Fitz made two 55+ yarders last season, while Sauls led the nation with three. Fitz was 13/13 (💯) while Sauls was 21/24 (87.5). Fitz was a 3rd-Team AP All-American, while Sauls was a PFF All-American.  Career-wise, Fitz was 58/74 (78.4), while Sauls was 52/64 (81.3). I wish that I could see the attempts and knew the depth of yardage. I wish that we could compare practice kicks during their training camps, but we can't. Maybe someone with a PFF/CFF account can give that Basically it's just a matter of belief I guess. Seeing dude knock down four FGs and go perfect during a pressure-filled game for him is damned impressive if you ask me. I don't believe that Fitzgerald could do that.  That being said, I'd have to know more. I will say that it may be worth mentioning that we seem to like PFF this year and Sauls being a PFF All-American may be notable. Now that being said, the Panthers may not be even considering Sauls.
    • Ive said it 1000x times on here.  Our 2025 season will be dictated by the first 4 games.  poo the bed there and lose all confidence and momentum, we win 5 games maybe.  Go 2-2, 3-1 we got a look at 7/8 wins
