This is an awesome breakdown by PFF of what the Panthers should do in the off season from who to cut, who to keep, cap space, free agent signings, and even including a 4 round mock draft. It's a long watch at 1 hour and 30 mins but they gave very good and detailed analysis of the team from strengths to weaknesses.

Quick Summary:

-need defense help all over the place. Only players worth keeping is Horn, Brown, and Clowney. They name drop realistic free agents on the D-line like Hoyt, Hurst, maybe Khalil Mack. They love signing safety Hufanga from SF as our enforcer in the back end.

-on offense, they think Chris Godwin would be a slam dunk given familiarity with Canales, but think Godwin would command a lot of money. They think it'll take 30+ mill per year to get Higgins and he would likely be overpaid. Pats might sign Higgins at that money.

-Draft wise, dream pick would be Mason Graham but given mock sim he went to Pats. So they pick Abdul Carter. These guys do a lot of research on college prospects and utilize PFF grades to see their value. They pick DT in 2nd, LB in 3, WR in 4th, and another DL in 4th.

Overall pretty cool analysis and I would not be upset if the off season went like this.

THANKS FOR THE SUMMARY.

Pretty entertaining and they made some good points about the existing roster and potential free agent moves. I feel like they didn't really work their FA / Draft  picks through the schemes that Canales and Evero play so I think that part is of limited value. The FA money sounded dead on at 45 - 60 and it was a  thorough eval of talent and needs. I also believe that this will be a defense heavy draft if it falls to us.

I wouldn't mind if the team focused on building a dominant defense the next 2 offseasons unless they're in a position to draft Arch Manning (whose family might refuse to let him play for the Panthers but we'll discuss that if it was ever a realistic possibility of drafting him)

The defense has been gutted and neglected since the all-defense draft of 2020, the only remaining player from that draft being Derrick Brown. I expect a defensive player taken with the inevitable top 10 pick the Panthers will have, probably a pass-rusher or defensive tackle, and hopefully following it up with a LB or S in the second round.

This team has so many needs at almost every position, that although a blue chip player in the top of the first round seems like a great idea, it might be worth considering trading down some slots to accumulate picks later in the 2025 draft or in 2026.

It's a damn shame Scott Fitterer was too stupid to trade Brian Burns to the Rams for 2 first round picks and a second round pick. The Panthers would be in a MUCH different situation right now if he had taken that trade. If I saw him on the street I'd seriously ask him why on god's green earth did you turn that trade down?

not really without a qb we are dead in the water

100% even if rest of team is really talented if they march young out to be qb and he plays like he has for 90% of his starts the panthers have already lost doesnt even matter how good the rest of the team is or isnt and also makes it hard to even tell how good they are.  They need true competition for young this offseason.

It was a fun video, until they got into the McDonald's stuff.  Sounded disgusting.  I also hate McDonalds and consider it the lowest form of fast food.  Bleh!  (my opinion)

As far as Bryce - he's shown a lot of promise to the coaches, the media and community.  If you're a Bryce doubter or hater, I got bad new: he's going to be QB in 2025.  I'm still personally in the "let's see how he grows."  I'm also not sure if any of the top QBs are better than him.  Then again, I have much NFL personnel experience as y'all do (zero).

I am all for the idea of building the team back up.  We need talent.  Look, if Bryce is inconsistent in 2025 and shows a real lack of growth and progress, then we'll still be in shape to draft a quality QB in the top half of the first round for 2026.

Next season is the make or break for Young.  I can imagine if he falls apart again, Dave will quickly yank him and start looking at the next QB class.

Genuinely, how many other QBs have been allowed to be THIS bad for THIS long in the NFL?

None. We're literally writing off another season (like we clearly did this season) by continuing to run him out there.

    • Franchise QBs feast when things are rolling and the tide that raises boats when things are going sideways.  Bryce isn't that. He's a complimentary player, that's it.  When the defense and STs are on point, he plays loose and it shows.  When we are in a dog fight and things haven't gone our way, he struggles.  It's that simple. He's not a horrible QB, but he's not top tier either.  So the question begs, is this worthy of a second contract?  The answer should be no.  It definitely is my answer. Bryce will never be a QB that can produce wins largely on his arm.  That's a FRANCHISE QB, any other QB is simply a placeholder at the starter's position until that guy can be found.   At some point the excuses of lack of weapons will be a straw man.  Heck, it's nearly there now.  I mean if he doesn't look even better than last year will we blame it on the TE position?  'Well if Bryce only had a player like Kelce, Kittle or Gronk on this team...'  Are we really going to do that?
    • When I arrived at college, I was 18, not too much younger than some of these draft picks.  It was not a huge school, but there were guys on the team who were 21, 22, 23....playing ahead of me.  I was seventh on the depth chart.  Those guys have been through a few seasons, were stronger, more knowledgeable.  I was a better raw player than some of them, but those other factors matter.  As I grew stronger, more familiar with the playbook, and learned what it was like to play in college, I gradually improved and with that, I rose up the depth chart.  It took most of my freshman year for the light to come on.  Had the coach thrown me into the starting lineup day 1, I would have probably failed.    And that was college.  So I agree with you based on my experience on a much lower level.  Frankly, I think that is why so many kids drafted to fill huge gaps bust.  The teams are desperate.  Anyone who looks to fill vacancies in the starting lineup through the draft is desperate.  You draft depth to develop.  For this reason, I say, "Let Walker start for a while."  Maybe Brazzell can be our WR 4.  Throw Hunter into a rotation and ask him to do one or two things.  Freeling needs some strength and he needs to work on run blocking.
    • I see Bryce's development this way: He improved when his supporting cast improved.  TMac and Dowdle saved his arse last year, but in fairness, most good QBs have good WRs and good RBs--and good OLs.   The 2025 OL underperformed, actually. They were above average, but they should have been elite if you consider the salary cap.   As soon as we signed Lewis and Hunt, I started thinking, "That's not sustainable.  With Ickey about to get paid a LT salary, Moton and Hunt grabbling $50m per season combined, and Lewis around $17m--that would be nearly $100m and the Center just walked.  Yikes.  What does that mean?  Rico walks, Mays walks, and we do not have a top 5 WR on a second contract.  We do not have an elite TE, and only 1 is on a modest second contract. And now Bryce will demand $50m for his incremental rise to mediocrity?   So when we sign Bryce, we will get weaker at other positions.  Hunt, Moton, maybe Ickey and Lewis, will all be casualties--that is the right move regardless (not sure yet about Ickey, but he was not elite) Bryce is one lucky, entitled camper.  No competition since being drafted, and he lost his job for a while to the aging clipboard holder.  Now we are bringing in UDFAs and busts to compete with him.
