Hot Take: This team will never get over the hump, until we move on from Bryce.

Teams, panthers especially, who annually draft a guy they think will save their franchise from the doldrums are rewarded a continuing fate.

Winning franchises draft boring lineman, stop the run and get after the QB. They pass protect and coach up good QB to be great QBs. They stack good talent next to elite talent.

This team is far from that point. Roll with Nice Young, build the team and the culture and see if he continues to grow.

Burrow, Cam, Stafford,  Allen… unicorns. 99.9% of QBs don’t take that kind of beating and still win games.

Cam is the only QB in this draft worth a 1st, and we won’t be in range to get him. Use this draft to build the roster up, and if we’re in this same spot next year, grab your QB. The class next year is looking much better.

Im not sold on Bryce either, but you give him next season. If the team is still in this spot after next season, you move on.

Prime Cam did more with less, so don't give me that no weapons crap.

When exactly was this? It definitely wasn't his first 2 seasons because that's the only time you can compare with Bryce right now, since he isn't a finished product. Just like Cam wasn't in year 2. I'm not comparing Bryce's physical abilities to Cam. That would be flat out ridiculous. But Cam came into a much much better situation to develop as a rookie.

Updating unfair_to_compare_bryce_to.xls

Fair_to_compare_to.xls remains blank

Yep, if you're going to compare the physical talent then you've got to also compare the anticipation and touch that Bryce throws with.

    • At this point, I think Chubba is the odd man out. I hate that, but I think Dowdle gives us more production and big play ability.  But there is still a lot of football to play.  I think it depends on how much Dowdle will want too.
    • I’ve been anti-trade when it comes to Melo, but the way this season has started, it may be time.  I love his game and he’s a cool dude, but I’m starting to think, if he’s your best player, you’re never going to win anything of significance.  Too many brain farts, too many injuries, and ultimately for as fun and entertaining as he is to watch - his game is indeed a thing of beauty - it just doesn’t translate to wins.  And that’s IF he even plays.  I think it’s time to cash out and maximize the return.  I love Melo, but I think it’s pretty clear what the ceiling is for a team where he is the best player.
    • Every NFL team, college program, hell even HS has numerous "what ifs" that got derailed by injury. It's a brutal sport and half the battle is just getting lucky enough to stay healthy. Doesn't matter how durable you are and how well you take care of your body everyone is one weird hit or awkward twist away from a career derailing injury.
