The draft season shakeups are starting to begin on ranking boards. PFF now has 7 ED ranked in the first round. Albeit that’s relative to this draft class, not necessarily 1st round grades.

Notable:

Position/Overall Ranking/Name

1/2 Abdul Carter

2/9 James Pearce (somewhat surprised)

3/11 Mike Green (surprise, high climber)

4/18 Mykel Williams (fell)

5/20 Shemar Stewart

6/22 Jack Sawyer (climbing)

7/25 Nic Scourton (fell)

8/33 Donovan Ezeiruaku (climber)

9/38 Landon Jackson

10/39 Princely Umanmielen (surprise/slight fall, but high upside)

11/44 JT Tuimoloau (personally, I like him for us R2)

Sawyer is not worth 22..  He is benefiting from the NFL superstars who are white and play LDE--Bosa, Crosby, Watt--etc.  And he made a good play last week.  I do niot see much of difference/dropoff with his teammate, JT Tuimoloau.

I am starting to warm up to Jalon Walker as a LB who can pressure the passer as an edge.  Get creative.

We really need to hope for both Ward and Sanders to go top 7. I think there’s a chance only Ward goes

I also hope McMillan goes top 7 but there will be better players on the defensive side of the ball available

Carter, Walker, Graham, Johnson and Hunter probably all off board by 8

Pearce is probably next man up. If Evero gets his way it will be Starks

My biggest knock on Evero so far is that blown 3rd rounder on DJ Johnson(but I guess that’s better than a 2nd on an injured RB)

If we could trade down  and get Green I'd be quite happy

Mike Green and I like really like Walter Nolan as well

I understand everyone wants to trade down if you think you can get someone 6-8 picks later and collect another pick and thats great but we’re so devoid of talent that I don’t care about getting cute. Draft good football players and don’t get caught up on where you take them. If you end up drafting solid contributors no one cares where you drafted them.

This draft is so important for us. We can’t miss on prospects. So if you love Mike Green and he turns out to be who you think he is then 8 is not too high

Most couldn’t believe the Lions took Gibbs so high 2 years ago. I’m sure no one is complaining about that now

Yeah I should have noted they aren’t listing Walker as an Edge defender on their site but he can totally play there as well as offball.

Just started my armchair scouting this week with the EDGE guys.

Not very impressed with Mykel Williams, was disappointed that JT Tuimoloau seemed to decline a bit from last season, and was impressed with Jack Sawyer's motor but he reminds me of YGM with better hand-fighting. To be fair to all of them, I've got only two games each reviewed so far.

Abdul Carter is a freak.

I'm very eager to dive into the Mike Green film. Got a feeling that he's long gone by the time the Panthers get to make their second selection (whether or not they trade up) but going to hold on to hope!

All I know is the roster is so bad, they need to come away with at least 3 day 1 starters.

no more ‘a wishin and a hoping’ a player will be what they are not based on potential

that roster can’t afford that luxury

just my two cents…particularly when the defense isn’t just bad…it is the worst in NFL history in points allowed and Im Sure in the sieve category against the run

still shocked they kept Evero

I have read various perspectives, some with Sanders going mid round, but I think there will be 2 QBs going in the top 5.  With the exception of the Kenny Pickett year, most years QBs creep up boards the closer we get to April.  This is going to sound crazy, but I could see will Howard going in round 1.  How you perform on the biggest stage carries a lot of weight.  Depending on what Rodgers decides in his Oregon black hole of meditation, it is possible that only Jax and NE (picking before us) do not need a QB--five of seven teams.  How do you not take Sanders if he is sitting there? Someone will bite.  Furthermore, Jalen Milroe reminds me of Anthony Richardson who was drafted fairly early, and Quinn Ewers reminds me of Bo Nix.  All it takes is one team (see Pickett, Kenny).  Howard's stock is about to explode--I think he goes round 1--I could see a team like the Raiders, Colts, or Steelers taking Howard.  Once the chips start getting pushed to the center of the table, people will overpay.

    • As expected. Still no reason not to bring in competition via FA or draft. Bryce can be our bridge QB until we find ourselves our franchise QB.
    • I've been here since the forum started.    It's an X through Fitterer because I couldn't stand him.   Very troll like behavior.
    • I agree with this, wholeheartedly. Bryce tantalizingly has his moments, even his games. This past Saturday was one of those. He really became the Mouse that Roared after the team fell behind and the o-line started collapsing. And, in truth, I think had the play calling been better at the end, he might well have brought us back into another lead change. Talk about a legendary moment just missed. I'm going to get lambasted for this but as a cautionary tale, I want to just say we're sitting at a spot that the San Diego Chargers were way back in the day. They had a short-ish QB on a rebuilding team that was underwhelming most games, but had some really good moments. They decided instead to take a gamble on drafting someone new and letting that QB, Drew Brees, go find someone more willing to let him develop. They turned around and had a draft debacle with Eli Manning/Phillip Rivers, ending up with Rivers in the end. We've got to remember that Brees wasn't who he would become at that time, it would take a coach willing to open up the offense and give the tough young kid a chance to grow. Rivers would become the poster child for the guy who almost was. Brees will get a gold jacket someday to go with the Saints only Superbowl win. Bryce probably isn't Brees, only one guy was and he barely got the chance to be him. Giving Bryce another season, maybe two, on squad gives us the luxury of testing the waters and the growth.  QBs early in their careers take time. We saw Rogers last night at the end of his career (maybe), sputtering out before he heads to the barn for his spot in the HoF and we have to remember him at his best, after sitting on the bench for three years. And we have to look at the other side of that coin last night, CJ Stroud, a draft classmate of Bryce's who soared out of the gates but who has come to earth since. He's still a good QB with a long runway ahead of him, but his performance under the big spotlight wasn't as strong as Bryce's on this particular weekend. I'm not 100 percent sure Bryce will be the guy. I'd like to see some more fire in the young man, some push, something that shows he can force his will on the other team's defense.  I am, however, seeing a kid that can make the throws, who can improvise and who amazingly can run braver and faster than I really thought he could. I think he needs time, he needs more confidence and he needs more brave coaching. If he doesn't get that here, I think he might find it elsewhere. And we'd find ourselves like the Spanos family, sitting on the couch in February asking Phillip Rivers to pass the chips during the Super Bowl commercial breaks year after year.
