Qbs aren't defined by physical abilities.

Brady, Brees, Manning, Montana, Warner,.....doesn't seem to correlate.

These GOATS couldn't run out of sight in a dark night. They won because of what's between thier ears and in thier chest. So people clamouring for these athletic freaks want more fantasy points than championsships

It's not necessarily less informative. The public only gets to see small amounts that matter. The interviews are a big deal if you do them correctly.

Also, the combine tends to be an information bubble. So, if I see an Underwear Olympics MVP but had an underwhelming college career, does something on the tape pop out? Was he not being utilized correctly? Was there some issue that wasn't the players fault? Or is this an Ian Thomas practice MVP?

The combine gives everyone an idea about the physical and athletic capabilities of an athlete but not necessarily how that translates to NFL success. That is a vastly more complex problem to solve. It involves tape study, player interviews/interactions, doing background research, etc, etc.

The old school Al Davis "Combine Star" method does not work. At all. It's basically what we have done in Carolina for quite some time.

And if you're a local guy you go straight to the top of the panther's big board. It's fugging maddening.

Well the response was to the "physical abilities" and a good portion of those guys listed were incredibly physically talented. Arm talent is a physical ability.

Vince Wilfork just recently said this on a podcast re: Brady. Said Brady was not an athlete but because of his preparation and competitive spirit were elite so was he.

Also known as the Combine - Feb 27 - Mar 2

Are you going to watch more closely this year than before, any specific players positions you want to watch?

I may actually tune in to watch the Edge and Defensive Line positions and maybe some late round Wideouts.

Pick the best Georgia linebacker available. Period. Or Abdul Carter.

trade for Myles Garrett. Immediately every guy in our secondary then becomes a pro bowl caliber player.

coverage of the combine starts tomorrow on NFL Net.

Jalon will not work out.

other nuggets here...Mykel Williams played hurt all year.  Shemar Stuart models his game after Julius Peppers.  Mike Green notes he was never charged in the 2 incidents that have him teams asking about.  Abdul is training with Micah Parsons.

Even if you ignore that Garrett wants to go to a contender, which in itself eliminates us.  There is no world where we can put a trade together for Garrett that doesn't include the #8 pick.

    • Yes, but those guys aren't depth guard signings, they're likely going to wait and see who has injuries or players under performing and then sign there. I also think that if Ickey really is going to be able to play at some point this year, that's where our guard depth comes from.  As if he gets to the point of being active, we'd then have 3 LT's on the roster with him, Freeling, and Walker, gotta think one of them not named Freeling gets kicked inside if needed.
    • lol imagine being Hill and this is what your coach thinks about you replacing a guy giving up over 4 goals per game.
    • I don't think Tyreek is a bad player to play with on the field, for sure not in the same way that Diggs is, as he's a cancer on the field with how he acts, and wouldn't take kindly to being 2nd fiddle behind T-Mac. It's that Tyreek is just a terrible person who realistically shouldn't even be in the NFL, his insane athletic ability is why his off field transgressions have been overlooked.  If he was a WR3, no team would have kept him around, it was only that he was a 1st ballot HOF level talent that kept him around. Just zero interest in having a person like that around our young WRs, that's really all it comes down to for me with him. Again, if we were true contenders this year, that changes things and I'd rather bring in the best possible players and hope it works out.  But they're trying to build something here and to do that, you need high quality people, not just great talent.
