Giving a safety 10+ a year is ridiculous.  No way we should do that

We have to overpay for talent. That's the life of a cellar dweller.

Not many really want to be here, you have to pay.

Hence why our poor drafting history has fuged us so hard.

I'm way more interested in fixing the front 7 first but there is no way they can do it all this offseason. They don't need to be bidding on the top guys at any position. They need to find guys who want playing time and to prove themselves. Get closer to .500 and then you can sell the talent on being a contender. It's not a thing yet. Not impressed about over spending instead of being savvy again.

Bring him to Sir Purr

Some of y'all gotta update your budget spreadsheets. $10M for a safety is not as insane as folks want it to sound:

Keep in mind, these numbers were BEFORE the recent salary cap increase. As the cap increases, so does pay on average.

Of course, to be fair, Holland's best season was his second one. His most recent two weren't very good, but in 2023 he missed five games (x1 concussion, x4 sprained MCL) and he then missed two games in 2024 (broken left hand).

Might be some wiggle room in negotiations... 👀

PAUSE:  We are about to enter the most exciting weeks of the Panthers' season.  Try to keep your minds open and hear what Huddlers have to say.  Even us dumb ones.

4 more days until tampering period...

6 more until free agency...

Happy Eeeee GIF

I Would rather keep Xavier Woods and draft one or sign another aging vet. That would be adequate if we revamp everything else on def - which is what we should be doing.

Helllllll no to Xavier Woods, anything but another year of him please.

About half the starting safeties in the NFL make 10 plus a year.  Within a year or two, that number will likely rise to around 20 of the starting safeties.

That would be 22%, not half - there are 2 safeties.  14 make more than $10M a year which is only 14 out of 64.  Icege posted a screenshot.

But I think you are right - the market for a top 25-yr old safety is $15-20M a year.  My question is more "is he really a top 5 safety?"  He had a great year, PFF ranked him 6th as a safety last year, but is that enough to pay him top 3 money?  Not sure I could justify more than $15M....and certainly not a high % of guaranteed money.

    • Not sure who said it first, but Tepper is the correct answer. Still, I'm gonna go with Kasay keeping it inbounds. If, you subscribe to the butterfly effect version of time travel consequences.... When we win SBXXXVIII everybody's lives change: Moose never breaks his leg, We win it all again in 05. Tommy Jone is unknown and Peppers stays home, Champs once more 2008. No artificial pig heart turning JR into a creepy weirdo, no lockout, no Clausen. Fox and Jake ride off into the sunset on their own terms. No 2-14, no #1 pick. But, no laptop, no Blinn, 3 years behind The Golden Calf of Bristol, we still get Cam. JR let's him grow his locs like he always wanted, Smitty sees Cam in a new light. Dreads swinging, (and Smitty with his 3 Lombardis behind him) Cam is old enough to get those calls. No Manning narrative, Cotchery TD, PI against Talib on Philly Brown, 10,000 RTP calls and Kony Ealy SB50 MVP. No Jeans Fridays, no Tepper. KB doesn't slip on his own meatsweat mid-route in SD, Cam becomes the 1st QB to win 10 straight SBs. Retiring after being elected 47th president of the US of A, Cam ushers in the Permanent Proletarian Revolution across the globe, Xi Jinping bows in awe. "ẄøŘƙƐṛ§ őF ŧĤə ŵØRłð, ŮŊÏŦƐ!!!"
    • Yeah your right the owner was copping hand shandies while all this was going down
    • I mean not surprised the Patriots took him in and aren't trying to push him out. They've been the most morally bankrupt team in the NFL for a long while. Wouldn't be surprised if Vrabel has his own dirt on Kraft/Brady and other assholes from that organization over the last couple decades.
