everything I keep hearing from reliable draft people is that the NFL is way lower on TMAC (think late teens and twenties) than fans are.

I'm not saying that's correct but I really don't think the Panthers are considering him at 8 yall

Honestly, it may be the perfect time to trade back. For me, the draft is ALWAYS about value. This draft reportedly seems to have a deeper spread of starters possibly through the mid to even late second round, but there is a decided drop-off somewhere between picks 5 to 8 in regards to top-shelf guys. That being said, depending upon this deaft's dynamics, trading down would likely be advantageous if you can score at least another second rounder. Tet isn't before the drop by most accounts (but Tyler Warren is).

Trading back should have always been the play. The elite pool is tiny and the "very good to good" pool is very large. Get as many top 90 picks as possible.

Who is the player a team is falling in love with that makes a trade possible?

That is the question Ive been figuring out to answer for weeks.

My first answer was - I believe the LT run would start at 8. A team that wants the top OLmen, Panthers would be the team to dealt with. There's like 3 OLmen that could be draft here. Banks, Campbell, membou.

Ashton Jeanty is the other. If he falls to 8th, it could force some team to jump up for.

Sanders could fall until 8 and QB always bring a steep price.

That's five names.

Those are all good ones.  The top TE Tyler Warren, Tet or Golden, Will Johnson, and Dart are all possibilities too.   If we pick at 8, I hope it is Graham or Johnson. We can get the edge help later.

People need to get out of here with that Marty Hurney 1st round draft pick success crap.  It was only by sheer and utter complete luck he didn't trade Cam Newton for Jimmy Clausen.

yeah so this myth pops up from time to time but hurney was always unwilling to trade a future 1 to move up for clausen and it’s why the trade didn’t happen.

you can definitely criticize him repeatedly taking softball evaluation positions in the 1st but the clausen thing is misinformation

You're probably right but I like this story better.

But I'll give him his due.  He built a few good teams but we will never consistent.  Could have been a lot better but it could have been a lot worse.

It's sad that we miss the general incompetence of Hurney 1.0.

Thanks Tepper. Thanks.

I don't think there's anything short of four picks on days one and two that are going to lead us to skip on Mason Graham if he falls to us.

IDK, Charlie Campbell keeps saying his sources tell him that the draftniks are higher on Graham than the scouts and teams are. He is claiming middle of the first round.

    • Baker was traded before he played his 5th year.  RGIII was cut before playing his 5th year. So it is rare but it happens.
    • Time to hit 4000 yards and 30 TDs (including rushing). I don't care about INTs anymore. That's a big part of the problem. He plays uber conservative until the game is on the line. Playing not to lose, instead of playing to win. Time to let it friggin rip from the get. The team can win with a pick or 2 if he has 3-4 TDs. Stop playing scared.  But to be fair, his WRs have not been great. You all can bash about 1st round picks and O-line cap all you want.  Chuba as your #1 RB his entire career.  Adam Thielen as your best WR for 2 of 3 seasons is ridiculous. Then a rookie as your best in the 3rd season. Legette is not a 1st round talent. Probably closer to a 4th if you compare him to Brazzel this year. Coker has been a walking injury report. Nothing else to really speak of at WR or TE. Jimmy Horn has potential, but he is not an NFL starter yet. Oline has been better as run blockers than pass blockers. Ickey has always been so-so as a pass blocking LT. Center has been a revolving door for 3 years. Damien Lewis has been as marketed. Hunt is a great run blocker but an ok pass blocker - when healthy. Moton has been solid at RT. Biggest problem with the oline has been depth. When someone went down, their replacement became a glaring weakness. Overall a good but not great unit the last 2 years. 2023 was a ish show. Nothing else to say.  Not one game breaker, take it to the house offensive weapon since DJ Moore. Hopefully we get a little of that from Brazzell.  Either way, in his 4th season, it doesn't matter. You have to be able to overcome whatever comes your way. First 3 seasons with a young supporting cast is defendable. Can't use that anymore though. 3rd year in the offense. 3rd year with the same HC.
    • Highest amount of OL salary cap in the league too. The Chiefs are behind us at 2 but we are ahead of them by a cool $23 million. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/position/offensive-line/_/year/2026/table/active/sort/cap_total
