I've got mixed feelings on this one. If Carolina had a stellar front office that was known for nailing their draft picks in most years, then I'd be down with a move down the draft board to acquire an extra pick. Unfortunately, our draft history this decade leaves a lot to be desired....especially in round 2.

If we picked the best player at any position (outside of QB, HB, OL,) it would immediately improve our team. And, dropping down doesn't guarantee we'd pick the right guy in the 1st round or with the extra draft choice acquired in the trade.

I can see maybe going from 8 to 12, but no further than 15. Even going to 15 would bother me b/c that means Carolina would miss out on 7 blue chip players before they're on the clock.

The blue chip group in this draft is more like 3-5 players.

Trading down below 15 is perfectly acceptable to me to add 2nd and 3rd round picks this year. The perception is the blue chip poop is small but the solid starter and contributor pool is very, very deep in several positions. If you get 3-5 top 90 picks, especially on a dumpster fire roster like ours, we should EXPECT 100% of them to be in the two deep and at LEAST 2-3 starters, as well.

That is why I am okay trading down even into the 20's if the price makes sense.

I'll never understand this. There's no one amazing we'd want at 8, so we trade down. But that means there's no one "amazing" for someone to trade into our spot for. This is a weak Draft. We'll be picking at 8.

Ever been to a garage sale? One person wants to move off something and someone else wants to purchase as long as the terms are agreeable for both parties.  We are not in the RB, QB or OT market.  Some other teams might be.  If a team wants to move up to get one of those positions and we can still get a target guy where we would be sliding back to and the compensation is agree upon, why not?

Who in this draft is worth trading up into the #8 slot at the expense of a #2 AND a #3 pick? As Brooklyn 3.0 brought out in his post:

"There's no one amazing we'd want at 8, so we trade down. But that means there's no one "amazing" for someone to trade into our spot for."

Unless Sanders starts to slide and we get a call on draft night, I'm expecting to draft at #8.

If the Raiders somehow pass on Jeanty, the Cowboys will be all too happy to come up to #8.  We get their second rounder this year.

I d be happy moving back into the 20s. The Rams are known to spend draft capital freely, and they are looking at their final year (prolly) w stafford, so I could see it worth it to move back to 26.  I still say that Membou, Warren, or Jeanty could be the reason teams move up--and $$$$$$$$anders. 🤑

The author has no inside information and is going off rumors like the Panthers might take a wr just not at 8 article.  It basically says nothing so you are covered if it doesn't come true. Trading back would be beneficially to a club with so many holes. Someone may want the OT's or RB or a QB so it is not beyond the realm of possibility. I don't like to trade back in mocks for 2026 picks but in reality that is not a bad proposition because this team is not ready to challenge in '25.

Different teams value players differently. I'm sure we didn't have to trade up 1 pick last year to get Leggette, but we did

It depends on needs and depth at a need position, but as a general rule, you are probably right.

For example, he has not been mentioned in the top 10, but if the Raiders take Jeanty and a team like Dallas or da bears wants a top RB, moving up for Hampton would be wild, but it could happen.  Dallas knows the Bears just had Hampton in for a visit and they want a RB....Jones might pull the trigger.  All trades are unlikely, but the point is there are so many variables and teams that think one or two pieces is all they need to become immortal!!

This is how I see it. Too many people assume it's easy to trade down, but in order to do that someone is going to have to be willing to trade up and part with valuable draft capital in the process.

If some of those (25) 1st/2nd players start slipping out of their projected rounds/projected slot, then I'd understand trying to trade up and grab someone before the 3rd round.

I would love to know how many trades are set up in advance, conditionally.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
