Players to look out for

I agree; Walker isn't nearly as good a prospect as Luke was. Mykel won't be a complete bust, IMO, but I agree with your take that I'm not sure he'll ever be a true impact player either.

Honestly, the only defensive player outside of Carter and Hunter that I feel is a safe projection is Mason Graham. I just feel like if we're going to be taking a risk on an EDGE in the top-10 we should go with the guy with the higher ceiling in Walker.

I would disagree with this and most teams would as well. Ton of teams have him rated similar to Micah Parsons. Also not a chance the Panthers pass him up if he's available.

I think there’s a difference in saying he can be used similarly to Parsons and saying he’s going to be as good as Parsons. If teams thought he was going to be THAT good he’s not falling past #4. I think Walker’s top 5% outcome he could be that good, but it’s far from his median outcome.

My concern is if he spends most of his time as an EDGE he will more or less be historically small to play that spot. Parsons has more length which I think is really important for an EDGE.

So... if I'm reading the tea leaves here it sounds like:

- If we stay at 8 then it is Mason Graham or Mykel Williams (in that order)

- If we trade down in the 1st it would be Mykel Williams, Walter Nolen, or Donovon Ezeiruaku (in that order)

Makes sense, I guess. DL or Edge in the 1st is the focus.

Teams are comparing him to Micah and teams are dumb and don't like taking chances high in a draft.

Walker has longer arms than Micah by half an inch. Walker is two inches shorter but weighs the same as Micah.

The only RB there being Ollie Gordon is very interesting.  Big guy and ran a 4.61 at the combine but looks faster than that in games.  This draft has a plethora of backs to choose from

Don't know him, but you gotta love this:

Strengths

  • Big back with frame and demeanor for volume carries.
  • Gets going downhill without much dancing.
  • Adequate burst with plus tackle-breaking ability between the tackles.
  • Uses stiff-arm and shoulders to batter tacklers in space.
  • Possesses an insatiable thirst to score when he smells paint.
  • Smooth screen release with natural hands.
  • Capable of handling protection asks with more work.

-Jonas Sanker, S, Virginia
-Billy Bowman, S, Oklahoma

I looked at both of these guys and Andreas Keaton in my mock. I see them all going in rounds 3-4. Bowman is my favorite but also the consensus favorite and should go 10-15 picks before either of the others.

    • Any idea what happened to him at LSU? im reading that he was considered a 1st round pick in 2023, had an off 2024 season with only 4 sacks but was also on a horrible FSU team then went to LSU where he was supposed to be on an aggressive defense that should have given him a lot of sacks but he only ended up with one….   was he injured? Did the top SEC competition expose him? What happened? Cause this guy was considered a top prospect .
    • Sometimes its fun to read the threads/posts.  The panthers could literally hire a groundskeeper and we'd have a thread "improving the field for no other reason to prop up Bryce Young".  Apparently no move is ever done to actually make the team better.  All a conspiracy to just focus on Bryce Young. Or suddenly daydreaming and reminiscing about Sam Darnold when he was hated more than Bryce Young.  Its really fun to do a message board search about Darnold during that time period.   Or thinking there is just a tree that grows QB, and you can just easily go up and pluck one.
    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
