A good chance at chaos?

Comment from Dane Brugler regarding his final mock draft:

"Honestly, I hope it doesn’t play out this way — I want chaos, and there’s a good chance we get it this year."

A good chance for "chaos" 🤔

Brugler doesn't really elaborate any further, and for the record his final mock is pretty standard (Panthers take Jalon Walker).

Still, the comment about there being a "good chance" at things going a little squirrely caught my attention.

That would certainly be...interesting 😎

this draft definitely has a weird vibe to it. the fact that there hasn't been any trades this past week or so has me feeling like we're going to be seeing a lot of stuff going on.

another thing is that player valuations are all over the place. aside from maybe a couple, there's not a lot of continuity and consensus regarding player rankings. i think we'll see a lot of surprise picks.

A lot of final mocks now have Walker gone before we pick.

Yeah, I've been getting hype about Jalen Walker... which means we won't get him.

I think Rich Eisen just mocked him to the Raiders. I feel like his stock has been climbing the last few days. If they do, or if the Giants do something wild at 3, it could definitely set off chaos.

The evaluations could swing wildly given the lack of talent gaps, the amount of guys who showed too little at the top this year and different teams being ok with different 'buts' players have.

It's only chaos because of the lack of usual group think. Someone or multiple will overreach and I'm going to enjoy watching it tonight after tuning out for years.

In your other thread, don't remember the title. Some insight was that most teams in top 10 was looking into trading out of their pick.

Sound like potential chaos.

Will it happen? Depend on teams accepting a lot less compensation for doing so.

Maybe some top 10 teams even will be considering trading up, if their attempt to trading down is getting low balled. Just to get a blue chip player. 🤔 🤷‍♂️

It's a great year to be a smart team. With all the perennially dumb teams sitting in the top 10 wanting to trade down there will probably be a perennially smart team identify a guy who may not stand out from the pack from a pure talent perspective but who does stand out from the pack in terms of fitting what they're looking for at that position of need and they'll jump up the draft board at a bargain to get him.

I'm all for the whole thing going sideways as long as we come out of it good. Chaotic drafts are a blast to watch 😄

But now watch it just be a run-of-the-mill draft...

Panthers trade #8 for a mid round 1st swap and a 2nd. amass some ‘solid’ starter level/quality depth.

This team is still paper thin when it comes to quality depth at very key positions. WR? LT? Center? QB? CB? Edge? The next few days have to be about amassing as large a  quantity as possible of dudes that can at the very least do their damn job.

Blue chip dudes are vital to winning championships, but If they end up with 1 stud and 1 practice squad guy it’s actually a step backwards. The stud may win you 2 games that you don’t deserve and screw up next season’s draft. It screws up the window timing.

I’ll take 4 solid starters all day long.

Jeanty drops to 8. Cowboys give us 12 and 44 to move up. We pick Williams at 12

I think it would probably be more like #12 and their 3rd for #8 and I would still be intrigued by that. My concern is more a long the lines of moving down to like #20 for just an extra (later) 3rd. Fug that. You gotta get more value out of #8 overall than that.

    • Sometimes its fun to read the threads/posts.  The panthers could literally hire a groundskeeper and we'd have a thread "improving the field for no other reason to prop up Bryce Young".  Apparently no move is ever done to actually make the team better.  All a conspiracy to just focus on Bryce Young. Or suddenly daydreaming and reminiscing about Sam Darnold when he was hated more than Bryce Young.  Its really fun to do a message board search about Darnold during that time period.   Or thinking there is just a tree that grows QB, and you can just easily go up and pluck one.
    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
