Dan Morgan on Jadeveon Clowney: “we’re still working through the roster”

Recommended Posts

Yea I dont think we will be keeping DJ Johnson, Pat Jones, DJ Wonnum, Jadeveon Clowney, Amare Barno, Nick Scourton, and Princely Umanmeilen on the same final 53 man roster.

Im pretty sure we might have some other dudes at edge as well that im not recalling.

All I will say is Wonnum was solid when he was healthy. Otherwise, that is a room full of JAGs not counting our two drafted guys. One of them could push to start immediately if theyre good enough.

We had such a poo defense they should let the best man win in training camp for the starting OLB positions.

Who else was out there last year besides the above 4 on the roster? Felt like one of those years where I only knew half the D players on the field lol.

Trust me man, we had some random ass dudes playing on defense near the end of the year.

I would hesitate putting rookies ahead of Clowney in April.

Definitely we want to get these guys into camp and go from there. Clowney is 32 though. Just have to weigh options.

There is a part of me that wants to hang on to Clowney. Providing a solid veteran presence might help the young guys if we turn out to be a decent team.  Or if he plays decent this year, but we are not in playoff contention, then we can trade him to a contender for a draft pick or two when the trading deadline approaches.

That being said, if we need the cap space, so be it.

If morgan can get anything for him then do it but out right cutting him would be a bit weird

    • I mean, the point is it is a flawed statistic that is just some catch all for whatever.  It doesn’t differentiate between truly bad ass performance and you happened to be there and handed the ball off type of performance.  It is the same for every player so fair in that sense, but without going into detail of how they qualified for the stat you are just looking at a very broad descriptor.    I don’t know about you but until I looked up the the qualifiers and understood that, I had this picture in my head of the QB that leads his team down the field like a boss, against the clock, and passes the team to a last minute or two come from behind win.   But is not always the case, not close. If say, your defense gets a turnover in enemy territory in the 4th quarter and you hand it off to the running back a couple of times, and your team kicks a FG for the deciding score, you get a GWD. Counting the same as the former scenario of the last minute against the clock do or die hurry up drill executed to perfection.    Unless you go look at each individual drive chart that earned a GWD, you can’t tell which it was.
    • The recievers bailed him out on some early throws, I think it help calm his nerves.  Bryce had a really good game yesterday and I was impressed by some of his passes
    • They got CMC and Kittle so I think they got the weapons to really make life hard on our defense given they can pick on our weakness.   I expect a standard first half.  Panthers would be lucky to score a TD.   They have not scored more than one TD in the opening half all season. SF gets up to a nice lead at half.  then it can go two ways.  It gets really ugly.   We have seen that.  Or Carolina is allowed back in to the game.  We have seen that.
