Texas A&M Nic Scourton vs. Purdue Nic Scourton

I put this in the other thread already but Scourton says he was the same weight his sophomore year at Purdue as he was at A&M

There’s this and the whole Bryce and TMac working out prior to the draft thing that for whatever reason people keep running with. TMac and Bryce threw together once prior to the draft because they happened to be at the same place.

With that said, I’m super interested in seeing what a 255-260 Scourton can do standing up rushing the passer on passing downs

Freshman year he was listed at 235.

While Purdue listed him at 280, as was pointed out repeatedly when Bryce was being discussed as the #1 pick, colleges are notorious for adding pounds and inches like pro wrestling. I find it really hard to believe he packed on nearly 50lbs of muscle in a single college offseason. 20 - 30? Yea, I can see that even though it isn't as common. 50 tho? That's a ridiculously massive jump in one offseason.

Plus, looking at the 2023 vs 2024 tape, there is a clear size & speed difference. Give the tape a view! You'll like what you see. 😄

No, so admittedly my comment is not a fully informed one.  But had the misfortune of experiencing West Lafayette in the winter many years ago and I’m not a winter person.

My son goes to Purdue. It is indeed very cold there lol.  And as a military brat my son grew up in Hawaii, Australia and Maryland. Big difference.

People are sleeping on this pick, this may be the steal of the draft

Pff had him listed as top 10 after the overdue season. That seems like a theme for a bunch of our players drafted this year. Guys who had high grades but slid for injuries or scheme the following year.

PFF ain't. Morgan gave him a first round grade.

On an off note, the draft was deep at EDGE, so it stands to reason that Scourton would be better than his draft spot. The same is true for Princely Umanmielen.

Had him as my second best DE near start of draft process. I think he should immediately start next to clowney. Keep wonnum in a back up role.

Clowney needs to be a rotational player at this point, he was at Baltimore before he came here and got 9 sacks.  He was gassed most of the time out there.  Scourton and Wonnum will start, Clowney and Princely will rotate in

Did you watch the interview I posted? Scourton himself said he was 280 but just overall a tighter 280

And yes colleges and people lie about that stuff all the time. Any time I got to fill in my info for a program or something like that I added 1-2inches and 10-15 pounds. It’s why they take these players measurements at the combine

Ive already watched a bunch on all of our draft picks and I think both edges have real potential. Scourton and Princely can beat you in multiple ways. Both Nic and Tet are smooth/fluid movers and I’m always a big fan of those types

There’s a good interview with Princely I posted in his draft thread I believe where he talks about how he felt like last season at Ole Miss was the first year he was getting developed properly. Learning the why behind what he was being asked to do. I was also pleased to see Princely improve his 3 cone time at his pro day. His combine 3 cone time caught me by surprise given what he looks like on tape

I read somewhere (couldn't find the article again) that he wanted to play at A&M since he was a kid, hometown tea. Plus he wanted to play in the SEC.

NIL probably had something to do with it as well.

On getting into A&M

It was like a relief when I got the opportunity. At first, I was a little bit salty about it, not being recruited out of high school, man. But once I got past that and sat down with Coach Elko and his staff, and I was just like, Man, this is where I want to play. I mean, it's all in line. I think it paid off. I made some great connections, played some great football. I played in the SEC.

On NIL.

Man, I was taken care of by A&M, man, and I really appreciate it."

I did, but again we're aware of the practice in college of inflating height/weight as well as what is considered normal and his freshman weight tells a lot.

There was a recent Raw Room episode where at one point they were discussing putting on their "big boy weight" when they go to the pros. It's common for guys to have to slap on 20lbs over the summer, but King Dunlap mentioned having to put on 30 and how much of a toll that took on his body. That makes the idea of putting on 50 at the college level even harder to believe. I've got experience with cutting weight and that type of drop sounds just awful... and that's even if doing it healthy and not just turning yourself into a piece of human jerky. Having to add 50? Noooooo thank yoooou. I can understand wanting to take Scourton at face value, but we didn't take Bryce at face value either (and for good reason!).

Give the recently posted videos a shot. I watched the one you linked even though I've already seen it, so why not extend the same courtesy? I think you'll find yourself getting more excited about his Purdue tape than you will being irritated by what you believe are false narratives being pushed. 😄
