An honest look at Bryce Young

Yup, after the first couple of weeks I thought we had ruined him. Clearly zero trust in his OL and receivers and a lot of bad habits developed. Classic case of a guy that shouldn’t have started year one, not because he lacked the talent, but because the team around him was so clearly terrible and it hurt his development. I still don’t know who to blame for that debacle, I think Reich is a better coach than that even if he’s no Vince Lombardi, and nothing really got better once he was fired. Thomas Brown looks like he might have been a pretty major culprit, he didn’t appear to do Caleb Williams any favors either and that was with a far superior supporting cast. Feeling a lot more optimistic and I think this could be a fun season.

Agreed I think confidence is a big part of a players ability. Confindence in scheme, teammates and even himself.

So I am cautiously optimistic but still MUCH MUCH more to prove to be the long term answer.

Reich tried to bench him and was over ridden.  He came out of training camp knowing he was in a world of hurt.  His mechanics and footwork put him behind the 8 ball from the jump.  Even in the video posted he is still doing his jump throw.  Thats not going to consistently work in the nfl, hes got to clean that up.  We all are pulling for him but going into year 3 the excuses are in the rear view mirror.   With everything they have invested in bryce its time to win.

The jump pass doesn't bother me. Cam had an MVP season with people complaining about his footwork and back foot throws. The biggest thing to me that got Bryce over the hump was confidence. He went from never throwing beyond 5-10 yards to leading the league in big time throws after his benching. Once the confidence is there and Bryce is being the Bryce from Alabama, everything else is gravy.

Making sure he carries the confidence into next season is paramount. If he shows up scared we are fuged. We need to be giving him constant bjs all offseason to make sure he keeps a pep in his step.
