BREAKING: Panthers interested in Justin Simmons

We clearly need to add a veteran stopgap at safety one way or the other.

Bingo I like Ransom a lot but I’d rather not go into the season with a rookie being the last line of defense. Found this online and now I might be ok with the rook being the last line lol.

As for Justin Simmons: • 59.9 PFF grade • 53.8 run defense grade, 60.8 coverage grade • 19.8% missed tackle rate He’s more so just a name at this stage. The tackling issues really scare me.

Yeah, I think counting on a rookie 4th rounder to start would be a big mistake. Bring in a vet stopgap and if the rookie is ahead of schedule, great. But don't force it.

I'd rather hear this rumor than some of the crazy ones I've seen over the past month or so.

I like the idea of Simmons just because he has history with Evero.  Less of a learning curve.

AND we could use another veteran safety.

But wasn’t that the same thing with Fuller? And he was terrible. I feel like we have brought in a lot of guys because of Evero’s familiarity with them and it hasn’t helped at all. Idk why Evero gets such a pass. The Saints scored on every.single.drive week 1 when we were still healthy and had Brown. The Broncos defense got better after he left. When will he stop getting a pass for “not having players” and start getting hammered for not developing players or getting the best out of the players he has?

    • At this point, I think Chubba is the odd man out. I hate that, but I think Dowdle gives us more production and big play ability.  But there is still a lot of football to play.  I think it depends on how much Dowdle will want too.
    • I’ve been anti-trade when it comes to Melo, but the way this season has started, it may be time.  I love his game and he’s a cool dude, but I’m starting to think, if he’s your best player, you’re never going to win anything of significance.  Too many brain farts, too many injuries, and ultimately for as fun and entertaining as he is to watch - his game is indeed a thing of beauty - it just doesn’t translate to wins.  And that’s IF he even plays.  I think it’s time to cash out and maximize the return.  I love Melo, but I think it’s pretty clear what the ceiling is for a team where he is the best player.
    • Every NFL team, college program, hell even HS has numerous "what ifs" that got derailed by injury. It's a brutal sport and half the battle is just getting lucky enough to stay healthy. Doesn't matter how durable you are and how well you take care of your body everyone is one weird hit or awkward twist away from a career derailing injury.
