Team will never be good as long as Tepper owns the team

Who hired Dan Morgan? And Scott fitterer?

I hope that last round of hirings showed Tepper that he's put his organization in a place where his wish lists have to start where everyone else's end. Anyone with other options is going with the other option. Especially after he likely got a good talking to about just throwing out insane contracts after the Rhule hire.

Firing Reich midway through the first season definitely put him on the poo list of owners to work for. He was lucky Dan Morgan had ties to the organization already.. Even though I don't think he's done a very good job at managing this mess

That's why I'm for Morgan and Canales getting more runway.  Because it would help rebuild the reputation of the organization.  People have to know they are getting a real chance to succeed, and not just getting taken out back and shot after 12 weeks.

I'm gunna probably get pooed for this but to play devils advocate yes the team has been terrible for years. Yes tepper has made a bunch of mistakes.

But he is not the worst major sports team owner by a Longshot. For that look at the Sacramento a's or Colorado rockies owners. They are terrible.

He made a major mistake with rhule. He tried to use his money and got an "all star " staff with Reich. That was a terrible mistake.

He has switched to a fresh faced coach with some limited experience- he's TBD

But imo tepper wants to win badly. That's why now he's blowing all his money on udfa and that has at least begun to pay dividends.

He still needs to put grass over turf and build a better practice facility but he is trying to win. And from what little I can see he has cut back on his meddling ( he's no Jerry Jones or al davis) he's spending his money, and he wants to win. There are worse things an owner can be. Is he perfect? No way. But he's learning and trying and imo getting better

Perhaps his biggest mistake was firing Wilkes. What’s done is done, but I want more than anything to believe you are right.

NFL coaching circles run deep. Many probably haven't forgotten how he just unceremoniously tossed Rivera to the side like that either. You have Ron getting fired before the end of the season, Reich getting fired literally mid-season in his first year here, Wilkes getting passed over when he did well as interim. I mean, he's got a lot of strikes against him.

I mean, certainly seems this way. We all keep hoping for a turnaround but y'all I'm just not seeing it. Maybe this year will be the year where the preseason doesn't matter and we flip a switch and magically look competent come the regular season but I wouldn't bet a dime on it.

Well, in all fairness reports are we have been dominating joint practices - for more than this year. Then we're told joint practices are much more important than preseason games.

Then regular season arrives and we all realize it was all wishful thinking.

All that's left is the late season mini-rally that keeps coaches and players in their jobs. And then we do it all again.

A few meaningless wins at the end of lost seasons ranking draft position is certainly another hallmark of the Tepper era and yet every year we have a good chunk of the fanbase trying to convince themselves that it's building "winning culture". It's building a wall around this chasm of suck is what it's doing.

Where is the narrative that this team doesn't look competent come from?

I’d say 2 things

1.  We have watched them and they look horrible.   Starting O in preseason has literally negative yardage vs their starting counterparts and our depth has been embarrassed.  That’s what we are rolling into the regular season as

2.  We are not just the worst NFL team but also the worst team in all of pro sports under David Tepper

What evidence is there of competency?

I recall saying it last preseason, but once again Dave Canales is sounding very Matt Rhule-ish again.

his starters finish with -2 yards on the day.  Done for the preseason.  They were supposed to play 3 series….

but Canales said they didn’t “earn” more time.  Bro, your team stinks right now.  They earned an embarrassing amount of reps.  They couldn’t do basics.  What they earned was to stay on the field until they did something competent

1) Today in 6 snaps that is true. However, Im assuming you are totally discounting the ~40 snaps (6 TDs) the starting offense got against the Texans starting defense on Thursday? Because to me, of the two, that actually seems like a sample size big enough you can glean information from.

Every single Texans beat reporter mentioned how good Bryce and the Panthers offense looked in their reports from Thursday. That's not the end-all of course, but it is a strong data point from multiple people with no pro-Panthers bias.

Also, I dont see the logical consistency. If you want to discount both the joint practice and preseason game bc we've been poo for 7 years, i understand. But this seems like cherry picking IMHO to pick 6 snaps as more representative than 40.

If you were going to pick something as a reference point, to me (and the Panthers coaching staff), the joint practices are a better point of reference.

It still sucks like Hell to be excited for a game and watch 2 duds like the ones we've seen the last 2 weeks. I get that.

And we can leave Jack Plummer in Houston.

But, it is still preseason. It's clique, but it is true.

I've seen too much from the offense in camp to not be excited.

But, I've also seen enough of the defense to not be concerned. Our pass rush has not been great all TC since the pads came on, although the run defense has been better. I think that is a legit concern, and I think there are enough data points you can't brush it off.

2) I agree 100%. But every indication is that he is actually letting football people run the show now. I think objectively Dan Morgan did well last year building after the mess he inherited from Rhule/Fitterer/Tepper trifeca of roster/franchise destruction.

I'm not saying there is no validity in what you're saying.

But I do think you are extrapolating the most negative take possible.

And maybe I'm giving too much of the homer perspective.

Truth probably lies somewhere in the middle... we'll find out in a few weeks!

Yeah I really wish I could argue with this but it is hard not to notice it.

Let's see what the regular season brings. If this continues he deserves the heat.

Those joint practice reps are something completely different.  And it’s proven to be such under Rhule, Frank and Canales.

because your QB gets a red jersey.  And he can throw a pick, get “sacked”, not move the chains and still log a “touchdown” in a joint practice series.  That’s not a game situation, today was.

people have been spinning the practice reps for years now at this point and they proven to just be a bunch of random practice reps.  We heard Bryce was playing like a 7 year vet right exclusively in joint practices…..then put in the worst rookie season of all time

it’s the whole fool me once thing.  We are in a repetitive cycle until proven otherwise for me .
