Panthers possibly trading Thielen?

Better not do it for a 5th, and I'm even on the fence about doing it for a 4th.

I think we should trade Thielen since this is his last year here anyways and we have such a deep WR room right now, but I'd rather trade him for a LB or DB.

If we can't get one of those, I think I'd want a 3rd.  Once you get into the 4th, the value on the back end probably doesn't outweigh having him around this year for the young guys to learn from.

By adding an extra pick via trade this morning, the Vikings now have added ammunition to go trade for a wide receiver. They have inquired on former Vikings WR Adam Thielen, but Carolina has been reluctant to deal the respected and productive veteran.

Question is did the Vikings free up enough money to inquire Thielen?

Superstar receivers are only going for 3rds. I mean Pickens went for a 3rd, 5th and 6th.

DK went for a 2nd, 6th and 7th.

Adams was a third... Etc.

Just cause Carolina fleeced Dallas and Baltimore for crappy WR doesn't mean AT is worth a 3rd all of a sudden. lol

Totally different situations, those teams were ready to move on from those players and were shopping them.

We aren't looking to trade Thielen, the Vikings are in serious need for a WR who can play a meaningful role Week 1 and have a significant connection with Thielen of course.

Honestly, if the Vikings were to announce to the league that they are trading their 3rd rounder for the best WR offered to them, how many better players than Thielen would they get offered?

It's not like teams are usually trying to trade away startable WRs at this time of the year.  We just happen to also be in a unique situation where yea, Thielen is our starting slot WR, but Renfrow might just be more effective this year anyways and the hope is that either of them are our 4th best WR this year as well.

Thielen is the leader of our very young WR room, I'm not trying to trade that away for a fair value trade, you need to make it worth it to us, and a 4th rounder next year really isn't a ton of value, it's hopefully a backup player in 26 who might be able to carve out a role in 27.

I'm not saying he's worth a 3rd, I'm just saying that unless it's that high, I don't see the value in trading him for a draft pick.  But a LB or DB that will play meaningful snaps this year is still my preference, if we're giving up a player who will play meaningful snaps for them on offense, give us one on defense for him.

He isn't worth a 3rd, more like a 6th or 7th.

That isn't the point though. We would be trading our best WR for a 4th? A 4th that is likely to be a special teams/PS player or out of the league in a couple of seasons.

I mean, Carolina in their negotiations should have had the Vikings put Howell in their deal.  Give AT, get the 4th and Howell…..then negotiate eating cap or a pick swap if needed.

Na, don’t need the distraction IMO.  Bryce either sucks or swims with no outside excuses.  Not like Howell is a savior in the waiting anyway.  panthers need to stick to their guns, either keep Adam or get a 3rd.

Edit:  sinks or swims, not sucks

    • After listening to Morgan's presser twice, I came away with some key beliefs. First of all, I don't think he's a bullshitter. What you see is what you get. When he says something, he means it.  The Teppers really have evolved as owners. Morgan has mentioned how they're easy to work with--a pleasure to work with a few times now. There seems to be a good relationship between all of them (and include Dave Canales on that). We'll see if it lasts. Yes, no one wanted to come to Carolina with the previous management, but that seems to have changed. The team signed arguably the top Edge, LB and OT on the market, two of them on pretty good deals and one on what I'll say is "not a bad one." And, credit Sunshine Dave "Flowers and Cotton Candy" Canales for helping to change the culture. Morgan mentioned getting guys--and I'm paraphrasing--that are not only great football players but great people. Don't look for us to be acquiring any James Pearce types anytime soon, just saying. We'll see if that holds true in the future. Dan Morgan really has set up the Panthers to take the BPA/BAP. He mentioned it at least a couple of times, and he doesn't seem pressured to pinpoint a particular position. He just wants quality players that will help the team. This is how it's going to be (to your joy or dismay, probably for as long as he's here), and personally I love it. Many of us know how Morgan was when he played: aggressive! That's what he's going to be when making acquisitions. He explicitly said it, and emphasized it. All avenues are open (think FA, waivers...the draft)! Personally, as long as it's controlled aggression and not reckless aggression, I love it.  On KP: "Mobility is big in this league."  He basically says if another QB is the BPA while drafting--we're going by our board, people--we're going to add them.        ...
    • Canes are so fascinating. Despite inconsistent defense and poor goalie play they keep winning.
    • I like Morgan's approach but I'll wait for a few winning seasons before giving too much praise.
