Cool.  Another Bryce can't throw deep derailment.

Pushing the ball down field is not an issue.  Throw that on the trash heap with all the other things Bryce has already proven wrong.

I mean, those numbers aren't wiping away the issue.

30th ranked pass O

32nd 40+ yard pass plays

26th 20+ yard pass plays

31st yards per pass attempt

The website's job is too sell excitement entering season.  Out of the nine stats, only one really zeros in on getting downfield and that is the efficiency aspect.  So it's not a # about when you do it or how much you do it.....it's just rating efficiency when you happen to do it (which isn't a lot for Bryce in a passing tree scheme that generally requires it).

because if Bryce did go downfield with the efficiency rating suggested and they weren't limited in volume....the passing stats above would be flipped on their head and we wouldn't be bottom of the NFL there.

what happened here?  I wanted us to draft him...was he a bust?  Or is it a cap thing

they claim it is a scheme issue.

but they are claiming a scheme issue for a guy has had a lot of recent off field issues.  Commissioners exempt list last year for some cocaine, assault, etc   Think he got off on all of it but the coke.

No clue, Pats fans are confused. Maybe Vrabel doesn't like him or something came up. He had an assault and cocaine possession accusation last fall but that was dropped before the season was even over.

I see the article he linked referenced the big time throw metric. Never seen that used so often before Bryce Young. That data would have you believe Bryce is a better big time thrower than Josh Allen Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson. Sound a bit far fetched? I can buy into optimism but anyone that actually believes that right now before Bryce embarks on a key prove it season is not existing within reality. I'd love to see it though. Time will tell.

Bryce Young has done anything but be consistent so far in his NFL carrer  .Bryce Young has to first & foremost prove that he is able to successfully hit his target downfield on a consistent basis ...just saying

I think every single poster on this board knows this is a make or break year for BY and knows he hasn't been consistent enough to warrant a big contract extension.

I also think there are several posters here (CRA, LG in particular) who will never be happy with our QB situation unless we have a top 4 QB like Burrow, Allen, Jackson or Mahomes (and I'm fairly certain they would be bitching at Lamar if he was our QB). Getting a player like that is extremely rare and is something the Panthers haven't done in 30 years... and there's a good chance they will be waiting the rest of their lives as well because the Panthers have been a fairly unlucky franchise and are owned by someone who wants instant gratification.

So for those hoping these conversations will go away, they never will. Cam had a lot of the same negative posts here as well except for one season. It's just part of being in the Panthers fandom

If Bryce cannot elevate himself to a top 15 QB with the pieces we have put around him and the resume we were sold before the draft then he was never that guy to begin with.

Can we please stop invoking Cam Newton in defense of our first overall pick? Newton was rookie of the year in a lockout season when many many people here on the huddle said he was a one productive college season project who wouldn't do much and should sit behind Billy Volek. He took relentless grief from the media and this fanbase over the years for just trying to bring a better culture to the Carolinas.

    • I'm not sure 19 is too high for Rodriguez anymore.  He looks to be moving up boards, but it could be smokescreens.
    • I see XL this way---great athlete.  Good person.  When we drafted him, we knew he was raw.  One year of WR in college (starting) and in HS, he was a QB, I believe. We knew we would need patience with him.  I think year 3 will be make or break.  He is older, and I think that people with his athletic ability have always been better than those with less---but those with less can become more successful.  Why is that?  in my view, it is mental. XL can learn the mechanics and nuances of playing WR if he becomes focused on it and works at it.  I had the opportunity to talk to Armanti Edwards one day after OTAs (great guy) and he discussed how overwhelming it was.  He seemed shocked.  At that time, I knew that Fox hated the pick (I heard him mock Armanti to another coach when he saw Edwards drop a punt from a jugs machine--then I saw Armanti look back at Fox as if to suggest that he was feeling the pressure to please the coach. We forget that these are kids in their early 20s.  At the time, Fox was a lame duck.  Remember when he had Clausen as the #3 QB and was forced to move him up the ladder?  I liked Fox, but I think the climate and culture was influenced by the politics.  Currently, I see another Wr from SC who is struggling, but he is ina  very nurturing, positive culture. Let's see what happens with XL.  I am frustrated too---but XL was a second round talent who was raw and we traded up to get him.  He had 500 yards as a rookie--lets call 2025 a sophomore slump and see if we can't get at least 50 yards per game out of him.  If not, cut bait.
    • Sadiq feels like a lazy comp.  Sure he would be a big improvement over what we have but at a position we don't and maybe can't (midget qb) utilize.  I hope the staff puts together a list of players you automatically take at 19 (Freeling, Lemon, Downs, Faulk) and if none are there, trade back to look at (Thieneman, McNeil-Warren, Proctor, Lomu, Allen, Iheanachor, Banks, Woods).  I get the people that think an OT would be a waste because we temporarily patched that hole, and ILB and safety are a waste because that is high to take those particular positions, but by trading back we get extra picks to fill every need.  A draft that has an OT, S, ILB, slot WR, and C would really put us in a good position moving forward if we get an extra first three rounds additional pick.
