Interesting: Former CAR RB Mike Davis Harshly Criticizes McCaffrey, Calls Him "Selfish as Poo"

I came across an interesting and rather unusual take from former Panthers running back Mike Davis about his ex-teammate Christian McCaffrey. On the “Raw Room” podcast, Davis described his time in Carolina playing behind McCaffrey as a “blessing” overall. But then the tone switched as he threw in this sharply worded critique: McCaffrey was “selfish as hell” for how much playing time he hogged.

Don't believe me? Here’s what Davis specifically said:

Quote

“I thought it was selfish as hell. I thought it was so selfish… Have you ever seen a motherf‑ker get the ball six times in a row?”

He recalled how even when McCaffrey had a bruised foot, Davis expected to see some action—only to watch McCaffrey stay on the field the entire game.

He keeps piling on and on, just flabberghasted at McCaffrey's selfishness for staying in the game despite his touched.

Quite the interesting podcast, lol. Here's the article as reference:

Hmmm... Maybe he is right, but just reading your comment (I didn't listen to the podcast) makes it sound like Davis is upset he didn't touch the ball. Honestly, our coaching staff relied on CMC so much his last two to three years, it may not have only been CMC wanting to stay on. And while getting the ball six times in a row can be unusual, CMC was the rare player that was both the best running back and receiver on the team...

I just think that speaks to CMC wanting to win and knowing that he was the best offensive player on the field for us. I still envision a parallel universe where Stanford didn't run CMC into the ground and he stays healthy for us his entire time playing for us.

44 minutes ago, TD alt said:

Meh. Some guys are three-down backs. Hell, that's really how it always used to be. CMC was a special back (when he was on the field). Ironically his body has afforded others plenty of playing time, no matter how "selfish"of can he was/is.

Damned typos. That used to rarely happen before the age of the Internet. I should probably give it five minutes after awakening from my slumber. poo, that won't probably help either.

what I took most from that interview in general….is I don’t think I would actually like Mike Davis.

at one point the hosts on the show basically called him out that he dislikes everyone

Mike Davis actually seems like the bad teammate who seemed genuinely confused about why he would need to do basic work if he had played well

There's a bizarre fondness the fanbase has for CMC, but I was absolutely thrilled when we got rid of him and still maintain that, at face value, we absolutely fleeced the 49ers on the trade, especially if Bryce Young pans out.  They got what we had.  Someone who was great in stretches followed by long stretches of injury.

    • If we went LB at 19, the LB at 51 better be head and shoulders the BPA on our board. I was thinking more like 1st or 2nd and then double dipping in the mid-rounda But yeah, if we went LB back to back jn the 1st and 2nd and they turned out like Star and Short I don't think anyone would be complaining. Well, not many anyway. There's always gonna be a few no matter what. LOL
    • I have been doing a bunch of mock drafts and this one interesting scenario popped up that made me question myself. I know our needs edge, mike, OT,wr, and secondary. This situation Love fell to 19 and I know we don't NEED a RB. But if we stay out at 19(I don't think we do) I don't think I could say no to love. If this team really believes in BPA and love is there at 19 who realistic is better than love at this point? Love is a top 5 talent, there is no akeem messador or Caleb banks or Kenyon Sadiq type player I think I would rather have than love. He would make Bryce life much easier, he's a homerun threat on a offense that lacks speed. He's essentially modern day Reggie bush to me and I think he could play alongside Chubba on passing down potentially as a slot and be the speed threat we really need. I think it's a bit crazy but I would be willing to wait til the second round and see who falls at edge(I think we land Chubb or loyd in free agency) maybe chase TJ parker if he falls or Rodriguez or golliday in the second/third. What say you?
