Smitty goes off on CLT on WFNZ

Recommended Posts

He's just upset that T-Mac is making him look like a fool and already looking like he might be a long term threat to his status as the Panthers WR GOAT.

Trust me, Smitty is my guy, in my opinion, he's the Panthers overall GOAT too, with all due respect to Cam, Luke, and Peppers.

But he does seem like the type to me to be upset about being wrong on the guy who is going to be a threat to his records and franchise standing.

Now that he's back in good graces with the organization we gotta take Smith's commentary on the team with a grain of salt. I don't believe the unfiltered Smitty of old would have defended this.

But yeah Charlotte is a fairweather sports town. Every city has transplants; I think the pro teams just haven't been around long enough to build loyalty.

Yeah, Smitty is up there with Cam and Pep as not just my favorite Panthers, but favorite players ever.  But the poo he’s been doing since Tepper brought him back?  Save that poo and stfu.  Him getting on air and picking on Joey Slye while singing the praises of Matt Rhule and how he believed in him, and then Rhule gets canned and now he tells us it was horrible under Rhule.  The poo about Mingo being the real deal.  He is a fuging bullhorn for Tepper and it’s fuging pathetic.  As a professional, and as many have pointed out, imagine Smitty being on the field with a Rhule, a Mingo, a XL.  He would’ve fuged all them up because they weren’t pros.  Smitty had a MJ mentality - you either coming or get left behind, but you’re not gonna drag me down.  And now all of sudden you preach understanding and patience?  He’s a bully to people he can bully, and here he is punching down again (ask Anthony Bright and Ken Lucas about it) because somebody’s paying him to push bullshit.

89's style was super fun to watch play the game of football.  I do not actually like 89.   I still think he gets way too much love to this day.  He is actually the type human you should root against.  I get the, well, but he is our bad guy mindset.....but to me he didn't even fit that given he was such a horrible teammate and person in Carolina.

Cam, Luke and Pep are the top of my list of Panthers.   They all share something 89 doesn't have.  Great players AND find a teammate/coach that has said some foul poo about them...it doesn't exist.  Pulling for the good guys is the way it should be.  Cam to me was the textbook loveable villain.  Everyone in house loved him.  It was the opponents that hated him.

Well, he's half right.  This city is soft af. Hell, most of the people here arent from here.  And the ones that are, are all wine and cheese crowds.  This city doesn't deserve an NFL team.

What does that even mean?

We need to fawn over a bad 1st round pick?

The city has never seen a consistent winning team.

What do people have to be excited about?

So Steve Smith will blast the city that he built a potential hall of fame career in but not the horrible owner? The Tepper's are the common denominator but all I've ever seen him do is kiss up to them.

He is still quite immature for his age and he has really done a number on his reputation as of late. That's a shame.

It's not like he's a Greg Hardy or Deshaun Watson.  Those are bad people in a totally different way than Smitty is a "bad person" like you say.

Being a jerk shouldn't factor into where he ranks amongst other players in a franchise's history.

Luke's career was too short, Peppers left on his own for half his career before returning at the end, and Cam, for as great as he was, was still a very up and down passer who couldn't lead us to back to back winning seasons (don't hate on me, Cam is my Quarterback, love him to death, but just calling it objectively like I see it).

Smitty was a special teams draft pick who's dog mentality drove him to a HOF career as a truly 1 of 1 type of player for his position.  There has never been before, or since, a player of Smith's size who plays the WR position the way he did.

Don't like him all you want, but he's still the Panthers GOAT, sorry.

Smith was a great player in the NFL but his opinions can be very hit or miss. It’s hard to defend XL’s numbers especially when our other first round pick is getting heavier coverage which should free him up. Effort shows on film and you can’t  deny that he has had lackluster blocking, route running, and most importantly RESULTS.

I think some of you are just still getting on him for failing to drag the toe. He's being grossly misused, and Bryce has been a pitiful excuse for a QB the first couple of games, so X may be discouraged. He's still trying though. I think that's been evident, even though some argue differently.

89 was 100% a bad person and teammate in Carolina.  It’s not me saying it.   And sure, everything factors.

89 wasn’t just involved in some football scuffles.  He assaulted people.  Multiple people.  And reporters from that era have always hinted on other incidents that remained hidden.

and he can’t keep what a jerk human he is hidden in his post playing career.  Whether that his personal life spilling over into TMZ or him clowning his colleagues for clicks.

if you want to put 89 ahead of Cam, Peppers and Luke? Do you.  Cam was the most impactful.  Peppers had the best career.  Luke the best actual football player.   89 ain’t jumping them for me

The toe was bad, the walking slowly back to the LOS at the end of the first half was SOOOOOOOOOO much worse.

That's literally middle school football 101, end of a half in the hurry up, you don't just casually stroll back to the LOS, just mind boggling how that can happen in the NFL like that.
