Dave is sticking by Bryce

It stands to reason that there would have been conditions of employment baked into an agreement. Especially if it is a 7 year deal (someone said it was I have forgotten).
Bryce gets two years of development before the cut bait clause kicks in, or something like that. It makes too much sense.
Canales would still have time to draft and develop his guy under those terms.

I know this, if Bryce is bullshit, fools gold, those players know it right away. if people don’t think being forced to take the field with a guy you have no faith in does not affect their attitudes, they aren’t thinking right. It can’t not affect things, even in professionals.

I am not dying on the Canales hill, but I don’t think he gets a fair evaluation if he is only judged by what he can do with Bryce’s leading the team. Not him specifically, that goes for anyone.

I think Canales contact is for 3 years. He's not getting an extension at this pace.

I think at this point we could bring Jake down out of the booth and have a better shot. This team has not become better in any way or area since Rivera left...we have actually regressed. We are no better right now than we were at the beginning of last year. Anyone who has actual talent here is traded for a bag of flour.

Let's not pretend we didn't have an extremely potent running game at the end of last year, too. Chuba sat the last two games of the season but had 1200 yards last year and the only games we won with Bryce where Chuba averaged approx 5 YPC or more, other than Atlanta. Atlanta is why I thought Bryce turned a corner.  But... nope

And meh, DJ is great for YAC, but Tet has more YPC and more total yards than DJ.  And, at least before today, Tet even had more YAC than DJ (and more YAC/R).

Not compared to that team under Wilks where damn near rush for 300 yards vs the lions and had multiple games around 200 yards rushing, I don’t think we had a running game close to that. DJ speed gives an offense more dimension than TMac size he’s also only a rookie

Cool. That is really short.
Excluding his no doubt fat paycheck I would not want to be in Canales’ position under these circumstances.

His contract is 6 years, and I agree that it's more likely that Bryce goes vs both of them being gone, for better or worse. Only scenario would be that everything has looked so poor/no one has developed, and that could still be the case

Canales will not see year 4 with his team looking like they have. He has been out coached more often than not and his situation awareness is nonexistent. He's simply not an nfl head coach.

Yeah there are other inadequacies that could trigger action unrelated to Bryce Young.
But is seems like Evero was also a condition. Which would cut out the defensive side in a fair evaluation.

I would like to see Canales for the start of a season with a new QB room.  I don't know if the decision was made above his head or what, but I'd like to see what he can do with someone of his choosing.

edit: pending the rest of the year, lol.  I don't care about losses anymore but I want to see the offense improve.

I feel like Canales, or anyone that had to depend on Young for success, should get a shot without him. IOW I agree we need to see that. He is green as poo. With too much on his plate, having to be QB guru play calling guru (around what might mouse can do), and the rest of the team too.
Steep learning curve.
People talk about you Young going elsewhere and succeeding should be wary of that with Canales.[edit: not saying immediately, but he can get himself another shot] We knew to get a coach we had to hire one too early. And we did. So I am more hesitant to trash his potential than I am BY9. How big or fast Canales is, doesn’t matter; we can”t go by his physique to see his ceiling like we can with a high school sized QB with bad footwork.

as far as improving…..

When the OL’s continuity gets messed with, you have setbacks and it takes time to re-establish. That happened to Dalton last year I think.

Things around him were just not that good. Out of sync. It never really settled back in before he had his accident.

Same thing is happening here so it might be a while before we see any improvement, especially with this guy playing QB.
Maybe at home against a team doing us favors, we can see something better.

Question was, “Will Bryce be your starter next week?”

Dave said absolutely.  Said Bryce is being competent out there, he’s leading us, he has good energy and focus, and he’s the guy to lead us.

i think I’m good off watching anymore of this poo.

He's a gondola...

He is going to lose the locker room, TMac already looked very frustrated after he was wide open down the sideline and once again Bryce throws it a mile over his head.

    • I'd rather get a vet to fill XL's spot for a chain mover and give Jimmy Horn more reps since he's basically our Ted Ginn speed guy. T-Mac and Coker are locked in as the top 2. They honestly fuged up giving XL the start over Moore in the playoff game
    • I have been looking for a dropped pass list and all that comes up is QBs. And team stats. When I do receivers I get the passing stats for a handful that threw passes this year.    I wanted to be accurate but anyhow I was looking because thought I remembered reading where T Mac had more drops than XL this year.  One of you many smarter than me people here,I would appreciate it if you know how to pull that up, please do. Thank you.    And yeah I know that isn’t all there is to it I just thought it was interesting.  Of course what the hell is a drop lol.
    • I agree with this and I think it's worth mentioning too that Bryce is not consistent on his placement and especially velocity and that in large part is driven by his footwork. We all know XL doesn't have the best hands and I don't know that he can overcome that. Cam always had the heater that just hit your hands and sank into your grip, where Bryce has some that are harder thrown, some soft. Bryce stepping into a pass looks so much different than that hop throw thing he does. I think XL really needs to hit the jugs machine and start learning how to catch all these different touch passes. TMac and Coker don't have these issues. If XL doesn't get some work in he's going to be out of the league in the next couple of years.
