Yeah I think Canales would have actually succeeded as a coach with the roster that Rhule had 2020-2022. Our team talent has gotten progressively worse with awful drafting

Yes but also look at last years draft. That was Rhule quality. Not all the damage can be blamed on Rhule or even Fritz. The current crew has helped dig that hole too.

Right, I don't think Morgan is any better than fitterer or Rhule but his statement was Canales is worse than Rhule and that is completely false. Rhule walked in to a better albeit not great situation and promptly torpedo the fug out of it with incompetence

Canales is an NFL level coach, not a good one but he is one. I don't think Rhule ever hit that level. Rhule being busy trying to do non-NFL stuff off the field probably kept him busy enough to do less damage on the field. Him wanting Fritz also make it an obvious choice for which is worse.

based on what?  His offense both here and in TB is complete poo

I said not a good one but he was a functional OC. He isn't an OC here, he is a bad HC calling plays and way over his head. He wasn't great in TB but he wasn't poo either.

functional is a good word to use

I said at the time he was a "fine" hire based on all things considered but brother there were a ton of red flags if this puppy goes south and alas here we are

Coaches like Canales have to be paired w/ a gunslinger or elite QB.  It's a story as old as time.  Weak boring offenses need the aggressive chunk pass plays to compliment their O.   You saw that in Tampa.  You see that in his entire coaching tree.

this is the frustrating part about the Panthers.  All this stuff is day 1 stuff and he waste years figuring out the knowns.

I was never a fan for many reasons. Too little experience so he wasn't ready, his offense didn't match what young could do, a cheerleader/motivational speaker is a huge negative with the Teppers, was Morgan's friend, didn't even get an interview elsewhere for obvious reasons and 1 year thst was overhyped because Baker was put into a functional offense with a deflated ego.

We were never getting a decent hire between being tied to Young and working for the Teppers. That's just too much to overcome after a one and done pooshow that was 2023.

It's not an apples and oranges comparison honestly.

It's something terribly disappointing versus something incredibly disappointing.

See, not the same thing at all.

It just seems that way because, we the fans, keep seeing the same outcome again and again and again.

    • I agree with this and I think it's worth mentioning too that Bryce is not consistent on his placement and especially velocity and that in large part is driven by his footwork. We all know XL doesn't have the best hands and I don't know that he can overcome that. Cam always had the heater that just hit your hands and sank into your grip, where Bryce has some that are harder thrown, some soft. Bryce stepping into a pass looks so much different than that hop throw thing he does. I think XL really needs to hit the jugs machine and start learning how to catch all these different touch passes. TMac and Coker don't have these issues. If XL doesn't get some work in he's going to be out of the league in the next couple of years.
    • I think most people like XL from a personal standpoint. I don't think he's stupid either. Although if we are being realistic he is lacking in football IQ at this point in time and it cannot be disputed that he has not taken working on his craft seriously at all times given the body of work on the field. It speaks for itself. I myself have defended him at times given the circumstances of our QB room. But he is now in his third year and 25 years old. We are not in a position as a franchise to go around babying anyone especially first round draft picks. He needs to take his position and his football career seriously or he is going to end up selling used cars somewhere. I hope he realizes this and takes an extended break from social media because that mess certainly isn't going to increase his net worth if he ends up out of the league. And these hanger on types will disappear quick too once that money dries up and it surely will eventually. We'll see how he responds.
