Prince and Scourton both had years where they had 10+ sacks.  Let them continue to learn.  We don't really know what we have yet.

I'd like to see the info on their snap counts.  For some reason we seem to like to play the wrong guys sometimes.

Princely will figure it out by Week 10 I think. Once he starts playing fast and trusting his eyes, it’s game over man, game over.

I'm not sure how much I'm changing mid year, especially when we are seeing some success.

Most Pass Rushers are physically gifted. Scheme and personnel help, but you gotta have the Jimmys and Joes, especially at that position.

We will likely lose games when the other team can throw for 400 yards, and has multiple high level receivers, but I think at this point in the development of our franchise, we have to be ok with that. You can't address every single issue at once. Really looks like we have plugged some holes on offense, and definitely in run defense. In the next draft, if we hit on a CB, an ILB and a Pass rusher, we will be pretty dangerous.

My take...

It's still too early in the season to know for certain how our young guys are gonna be.

I will say that even despite recent events, I haven't come around to being an Evero fan just yet.

Our pass rush is so slow the QB’s got time to write his memoirs

If a casual fan didn't know any  better, we could probably convince them that our defense has been instructed to simulate a pass rush but to not actually try to put the QB on the ground. 😆

It's been  our biggest weakness for the past 2 seasons. It's the main reason I had reservations about letting Burns go. I knew we had no one on the roster to replace him and I had no faith in the front office to replace him via the draft or FA. My fears were justified.

Does anyone on this board really think we'd be significantly better at this time if we had traded Burns for two # 1 picks in consecutive years and let Fitterer make both selections?

This.  But fwiw, I did see Chubb may be available via trade from Miami.  I havent kept up with him since he got there, but i know he had a major injury nad a huge contract.  Idk what he's looked like since he came back from said injury.  Regardless, he's a NC guy, so there's that.

It's hard to both focus on stopping the run and be aggresive with the pas rush. As long as they continue to stop the run like they did against Dallas and the Dolphins, I won't worry too much about it. Especially given the promise the two rookies have shown.

    • I'm super excited about the guys we're getting back, and fortunately this year, outside of Robert Hunt, we haven't had any season-threatening injuries. Rico has earned the start, but I am excited to have both available.  The team is finally turning into the run-first team Canales said he wanted to be. As for JT Sanders, I think he has lost the most be being out. He is probably our best receiving TE, but with the emergence of Mitchell Evans & with him and Tommy Tremble both absolutely balling in run blocking, it will be hard to fix something that isn't broken. I'm hoping Turk Wharton can help with our pass rush. We really havent gotten to see him much due to injuries, but we desperately need anyone to provide some pass rush juice, which is what he was brought to do. I'm the most excited about Jalen Coker returning. Theilen may have been the most clutch last year, but I've watched a lot of film, and Coker was the most consistent WR we had when he was out there last year.  I think he can be an ideal #2 to Tmac. While Coker doesn't have the raw athleticism XL does, his route running, savvy, and overall football IQ simply make him better.  I think with the fact Coker can play both outside and in the slot will give our pass game more versatility.  We have been running a lot of 2 TE sets, and I think Tmac & Coker should be the primary WRs for 12 personnel. The other WRs (XL, Tremayne, Renfrow, & Horn) all have roles, but I dont think any of them can fully replace what Coker can do. I do think Renfrow will be inactive this week if everyone is healthy bc of how valuable Tremayne is for ST and as a run blocker. So happy that we are playing meaningful football heading into November. We are still almost certainly a year away, but we are absolutely moving in the right direction
