The problem with our two back system, at least to me is they are the same type of back.  Both are maulers that perform better the more they are used.  We don’t have a Montgomery and Gibbs situation where one is a scat back and the other is a mauler.  I don’t see how Chuba and Rico fit on the same team cohesively unless you plan on handing the ball off 50 times a game…which might be the plan

We do have Etienne as a third.

If we wanna go that route (and given the makeup of most current NFL defenses, there's logic to it) we'll need to keep a big, bulldozing offensive line in place to open enough holes to get them to the second level where they'll be facing run friendly matchups.

The good news there is we already have several elements in place to make that work.

We also have Brooks on the sidelines

I can understanding thinking Bryce is a backup in this league.  But there is no realistic path to him being our backup.  The fate of the backup in the NFL is typically playing for so many teams that you become a free space on Immaculate Grid.

The problem with Bryce as a backup is the turnover issues. It would be one thing if he could go out there and be a low level game manager while protecting the ball, but he goes out there and plays like a low level game manager while also turning the ball over. That's a heavy lift to overcome. If you're going to turn the ball over you have to also bring the upside of being able to move the ball and put up points. Bryce is the worst combo of both.

Not sure if i agree. Rico is more explosive and runs just as well early in the game as he does late. Hubbard seems to be more of a gets better as the game goes along type, but i think he needs our interior line healthy.  He also seems to be hesitant right now, and waits to long.  He might get better as the season rolls along.

There's just not 32 quality backups in the NFL.  He can hang on if he's determined.  He might be the next Josh Johnson, but he meets the bar for backup QB.

We have some good pieces.  Enough to be competitive week to week.  Coaching seems to be improving but they’ve made it much harder on themselves than needed.  There are very good reasons to be optimistic about the future.

However, I don’t trust them yet.  Wins are odd looking and mostly ugly.  Our opponents have to have a bad day for us to hang with them.  A lot of that is because we still haven’t figured out the most important position and will continue until it’s solved.

I think Morgan has done a nice job in both the draft and FA so far.  He’s getting better each day he’s in that position.

As far as the players listed, I’m pretty much in agreement.  XL and Bryce are not performing the way they should at this point.  I will say XL could see more success in a vertical passing attack to better utilize his speed.

And as always, Fug Tepper.

Yeah, honestly being a long-term backup is at least as much about being a good lockerroom presence and accepting your role as a supporting piece and not being a greasy wheel as much as it does about ability. Backup QB requires a completely different mindset than the starter and some guys just can't make that switch. It doesn't make them bad guys or locker room cancers or anything like that, it just makes them not what you're looking for in a long-term backup. You bring in that type of guy to compete. You don't bring in that type of guy if you're not looking for competition.

Christian Rozeboom has a great motor but sometimes needs to improve his aim. Hoping to see more of Lathan Ransom, Mitchell Evans and others.

Rozeboom has played better since they handed the reigns over to Wallace. I tend to grade him on a curve because he was never supposed to be our starter. We need an upgrade in the worse way, but Rozeboom could still be a better than average backup.

Was Evans even on the field yesterday? I honestly looked for him and don't recall hearing his name.

Oy 😆

I usually map out the roster but I haven't done that this season. Hell, I'm having to look up jersey numbers in games when I see a play.

Figures 😄

We had a starting guard and an OLB that I had never heard of before and that was AFTER I looked them up! LOL
