XL is a bust

I have already said I am out on Bryce so let’s not even bring him up here. I think XL sucks even if he were to have Mahomes throwing to him.

This rep alone is enough to see he doesn’t have what it takes to be a regular starter in the NFL. At least try to make the catch you idiot

I mean, I think Legette is probably a bust also, and that's after trying to defend and rationalize about him, but I'm not gonna use that play. He did stock his hand out there, but the ball was just too off target. That being said, I've never seen a guy who is supposed to have the potential of a star just disappear in games like he has. There are UDFAs that do more than he has with the number of snaps he's gotten. His only saving grace is that he plays in a largely inept passing offense, so there still may be a sliver of hope that the offense is so disjointed  that maybe it's to difficult for him too succeed. That's probably wishful thinking though. We need a higher pick at receiver for the third draft in a row.

Honestly, with needing a QB, a WR, a defensive back or two, a linebacker, and whatever else, who knows when we'll actually be viably competitive.

And to think, people were trying to get after me a few weeks ago when I basically said that we drafted the wrong guy(s). Hopefully Dan has learned some huge lessons about drafting the past couple of years.

As the merry-go-round spins...

Just now, Khaki Lackey said:

Yeah, probably. However, he was drafted as a project. Next year, if we have can acquire serviceable QB play, we'll get our definitive answer.

Yea that's where I am. It's hard to judge him when he's playing with a QB who can't really get him the ball consistently, but considering McMillian is already producing I wouldn't say it's a great sign for Legette.

At least XL has the tools to be better.  He just needs to a) stay healthy and b) put in the work both in the film room and practice.  I've been critical of XL, but he could turn things around.  I'm not sure he has the mindset to take his game to the next level.  Until he proves me wrong, he seems like he's collecting game checks with no will power to be any better.

He can have a couple of decent games in a season so that should make him a captain soon...

Maybe wait until til players do something consistently good on the field before pumping these guys up with unearned PR? Like hold the sandwich names and such until the production and not draft value support it?

Receivers find ways to make plays on poorly thrown balls / difficult catches every week. But XL routinely misses easier plays than that.

I am willing to give him another year on the roster with a new QB but I think we should be seeing more Coker opposite TMac at this point.

The situation with the quarterback muddies the waters. I am sort of where I was on Bryce which is remove the excuses and let him show what he is.
I hate to say I think we know but thinking and knowing can be a little different.

I’ll never forget when Mike Jackson complimented all of the WR’s with specific descriptions. When he got to XL he pretty much said “Well XL tries”. He legit couldn’t think of anything good to say about XL. Facts are you could see he was a bust last year. He just had the convenient “he’s a rookie excuse” built in. You could see it this year in training camp in all of the 1v1 videos with him running his clunky routes, no separation. The way he moves, the way he catches, his non existent  football IQ. Unfortunately he’s not an NFL WR. I’ll always have a hard time taking Dan Morgan seriously for taking XL and Brooks b2b.

It is hard to call him a bust with the issues at QB. Seeing a guy running open and being missed over and over doesn't make him a bust. He has made some tough catches and made some routine catches that were on target. He has also flubbed some routine plays as well. He is an inconsistent second year WR, but he is also playing with a wildly inconsistent and at times underperforming QB.

    • I haven't been able to watch Seattle on a dedicated basis but the Seahawks are a much better team by the all accounts: eye test, record and DVOA. Defensively they are sick. Best DVOA in the league first in rushing and second in passing. Offensively their passing game has been on fire this year led by JSN I can easily see this being like the Buffalo game where things just get out of hand for us early, that being said this league really is week to week and Seattle does have the disadvantage of traveling cross country for an early game.  If and big if, the Panthers are able to effectively run the ball and limit the amount of time Seattle's offense has to generate explosive plays we have a path to winning this game.  Seattle fans won't be happy to hear this but bad Darnold is always lurking in the background. He is truly an enigma to root for bc he will have an incredible throw that only a few people can make but then will turn around and throw the most bone headed pick of all time.  I think ultimately we drop this one as ultimately it's human nature to be looking forward to that week 18 game. But man how special would it be to be leaving the stadium on Sunday with a win and a miracle dolphins upset
    • Wouldn’t that be something. However, I don’t think anyone is overlooking us right now. (It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to say that. Feels good)
    • You making fun of or not realizing how important that actually is leads me to believe you don’t have either of those assets and are subconsciously upset about it, or you’ve never been in a position to be a leader and thus you don’t value good leadership which Bryce oozes with.
