We were all screaming for it too, was so obvious, what was Dan thinking?

“Former NC State LB Payton Wilson is on pace to break the Pittsburgh Steelers' single-season tackles record.

The second-year player's 8.4 tackles per game would total 142.8, which would top James Farrior's 141 from 2003.”

LOL, most of us WANTED to draft him, but Dan had a boner for Trevin Wallace, I know I sure as heck wanted Wilson.  He's had injuries during college, that's a red flag, they said.  Then Jonathan Brooks entered the chat...   Make sense of it.

The injury argument against him was strong but as others have pointed out you chose an injured RB of all things.

Wilson was EXTREMELY CLEARLY a better football player than Wallace outside of injury/health concerns.

We often seem to whiff on these sort of players(Trey Smith, etc) when we should be making these sort of moves. This is why I railed so much against our FO and their pursuit of RAS/Underwear Olympics champions over great FOOTBALL PLAYERS.

Now with all that being said.......Wilson has started 8 total games in his career. He is technically piling up these stats as a backup player. Had we built our roster better, Wallace might have the benefit of being a backup player racking up stats surrounded by better LB's, as well. Instead he is getting abused game in and game out as a starter before he is ready to be such.

I wanted the Browns rookie LB this year, Carson Schwesinger

100%. I wish we had gotten one of those high level MLB's in the 2nd or 3rd. Oh well, the draft results don't look too awful so far.

two torn ACLs in college

he's playing on borrowed time

They do seem to have him on a snap count of sorts. Not sure if that is intentional or just that he isn't a starter.

TBH, in hindsight I would have much rather gambled on him than Wallace. Wallace appears to be quickly descending towards being a special teams guy, while at least Wilson can play at a high level for spurts of time. Even if he got injured in his rookie deal, probably would end up better off than we have with Wallace.

    • I think i like the Oregon Safety better
    • Do you see the vision?  As of now our Carolina Panthers don’t have an identity. We are not an offensive powerhouse and on defense we only started getting it together towards the end of the year last year. In my opinion we are much closer to having an incredible defense that scares the daylights out of people. I say the answer is simple and we fully commit to that possible identity.    Emmanuel McNeil Warren (E man)  This guy is like a shark lurking around ready to attack anyone. Fearless. He is easily a top 20 talent in my eyes, and the only reason he isn’t more talked about is because he’s from Toledo. Do your due diligence as panther fans and watch his tape I beg you. Once you’re done watching let me ask you this, if you dropped E - Man into the strong safety spot on the Buckeyes, he isn’t being talked about as one of the best prospects we’ve seen in some time given the skill set you see with this guy? I think so. Put his name on the card and turn it in at 19.    Jacob Rodriguez  High effort, High energy, High IQ guy that flies around the field. We all know Jacob at this point. My only concern is he’s a little bit too good and I’m not sure he makes it to us at our pick in the second. With the additions of Jacob and E- Man I think our defense goes to top 5 in the league. We would have a duo of linebackers that rival anything we’ve had in our past. I’m not a GM so I don’t know what the possible answer could be, but if there’s a way we can comfortably trade up in the second to secure this guy I think we find a way to do it.    Spend the rest of our picks fixing the O - line.    Thoughts Panthers fans? Who’s the ideal duo for yall?
    • OL is arguably much more important to the success of a young QB. (Or any QB)
