EVERY single one of us with an IQ > 10 WANTED Ben Johnson, DID NOT WANT Bryce Young

I did NOT want young. I was 50/50 on Johnson and still am kinda. He has a really talented roster. He should be 9-3 with the skill they have. The previous coaches were just idiots. Johnson comes across as one of those guys that can lose composure and the locker room fast. Kinda like Jonathan Gannon. Smart guy, seems to doing well so far.

Ben Johnson appears to be a massive prick.  I would question how things would go in rough times with him because I’m sure he becomes an even bigger one then

Ben Johnson wanted nothing to do with Carolina, and rightfully so.

Yep. He actively avoided us and other bad situations to wait and find a situation that set him up for success.

He is a very shrewd guy doing so.

Way too smart to be swayed by someone like Tepper.

That's what they were saying about Nick Sirianni about 2 seasons ago.

He also has a .700 winning percentage.

People also called Dan Campbell a lunatic upon his hiring.

No one wanted Shane Stichen to come here, that's the guy I wanted.

Not like it would have mattered,he was allowed to replace his highly drafted bust QB while we were forced to keep putting ours out there. That's why Tepper can't get any quality coaches and I will die on that hill.

Owners should not be making roster decisions, especially decisions on who is starting.

I seem to remember a few people touting him as a potential hire. Don’t remember a lot of that process in detail any more

Well Tepper let Rhule dump Cam for his QB.  Bridgewater was not the answer.  From there it was downhill.  I always thought that though Cam was limited he was still a better QB than anyone we picked up.  I would have rather drafted a QB and learn behind Cam and eventually take over.

After Rhule screwed it up, Tepper was going to pick his QB.  He knew nothing about QB in the NFL.  Too many Heisman QBs don't pan out in the NFL.

Many won't acknowledge it but this forum was full of Tank for Young when he was in college.  I wasn't one of them.

lol where is Frank Reich these days anyway.

Kind of surprised he never had some big tell all podcast moment about his time here.

Say what you want about Reich, I like the guy, he’s much too professional to drop to Teppers level and start talking poo or spill the beans on his relationship with the FO or the Teppers.

Quite a few people here were interested in Steichen. The Panthers held an interview with him over Zoom because he was still coaching in the playoffs at the time. The excuse from our org was that he didn't interview well. We even had Vrabel scheduled for an interview too. But Tepper was his usual impatient and impulsive self and rushed into hiring Reich and then became hyper focused on drafting "his guy" Bryce Young. Honestly it probably didn't matter who we hired it was always going to end badly because of the Tepper's.

Yeah. I don’t know if he will ever tell the inside story, but it won’t be told while Bryce is playing. And probably never.
Sure would love to hear it though.

And I would bet all your money on Frank not wanting Bryce.
He was a victim too. Highly compensated but he didn’t ask for Bryce.

He knew.
It is why he quit looking like he gave a poo.

Not only Bryce...

The "all star" coaching staff approach was pushed on Reich because Tepper saw the initial success Brian Daboll was having. That's how we ended up with Thomas Brown (among others) rather than the staff Reich would hav chosen himself.

When it comes to football, Tepper is one of those guys who sees someone else having success and says "hey, let's copy that" rather than getting people who have their own ideas.

So, not just unoriginal, but also stupid 😡

As to Bryce, Fitterer admitted he'd locked in on Bryce the year before and wasn't budging. Pretty much everyone believes Reich wanted Stroud, but why would you expect him to get his choice of quarterback when he didn't even get his choice of assistant coaches?

Add in that besides Tepper's Monday meetings and his using assistants as basically corporate spies, Fitterer lthrew Reich under the bus when Bryce wasn't an overnight sensation.

Basically, Reich never had a shot.

Now Fitterer is gone, the all star staff is mostly gone, the Giants are a sh-t show and Reich is experiencing a career resurrection at Stanford.

And us? Well, we're still here hoping for a miracle 😕

IDK that I would call 4-7 a career resurrection.....

    • I'd hold on to Walker - we have no OT depth at all. Freeling is a block of clay - all the tools are there and he appears to have a great attitude. He needs serious work on his technique to realise his potential though.
    • From my watch last night: They weren't trading out of 19 unless it was a daft offer once Freeling got there. They were clearly antsy to get Hunter - and Minnesota actually called to offer the trade down. They weren't trading out of the third round pick once Brazzell fell to it (and Canales would have been happy with him in the second round). They traded back a lot on Day 3 - even if Morgan 'Babe Ruth'd' it with Lee, Hecht and Wheatley; they clearly weren't the only guys they would have taken at those picks. I'm curious to know which player caused the reaction at the start of day 2 (Dan Morgan): "of course they'd pick him"
    • Watching this confirms that this staff and front office is super high on Monroe Freeling. I wouldn't be surprised if he's gotta a real chance to win the starting LT job in camp. If he does, we can look to flip Rasheed Walker to a contender desperate for tackle help.   As for Ickey I still really like him and wanna extend him but based on how the staff was talking about Freeling it might be time for ickey to start taking some practice sets at guard if he wants to stay here as we are gonna have to have figure out a solution for the contracts of Lewis and Hunt.  My preferred scenario for the Oline in 2027 is Freeling-Ickey-Hech-Lewis-Moton.
